Updated: More frac quakes! 4.7M (AER lists it as 5.03; 7.1km depth), 4M (1km depth) and many smaller earthquakes hit near Grande Cache, felt in Alberta and BC. Obviously, AER’s and BCER’s Traffic Light “mitigation” system isn’t working.
Snap taken Feb 29, 2025 of the map of horizontal frac jobs in the epicentre area of the Feb 20, 2025 4.7M(7.1 depth) and 4M(1km depth) and more smaller frac quakes 62-63 km NE of Grande Cache, Alberta, felt as far away as Prince George in BC and Edmonton Alberta.
Think of the methane and deadly sour gas leaking from those endless horizontal well bores repeatedly frac’d and refrac’d, never mind the cumulative damages to those well bores and subsurface caused by repeat frac quakes.
Update March 10, 2015:
More frac/waste injection quakes in area listed by Earthquakes Canada (EC) at link under their main web page map, but not listed under EC’s recent quakes and worse, not by AER either (AER call the area Musreau Lake when they do list quakes there):

Many more quakes since the big 5.03 on Feb 20. Either Danielle Smith’s pal she plunked onto the AER did not shut down the frac’er as required under the traffic light system, or, they were shut down, but the frac quakes continued.
This grouping of quakes immediately below was added to AER’s dashboard on March 10, 2025. I do not see how AER can appropriately or responsibly regulate frac quakes, keep Albertans safe and implement their stoplight con system if they are ten days behind assessing and posting quakes, notably with EC quakes that require action:

etc etc etc etc many more pages of known induced quakes where heavy frac’ing is ongoing in the area of these reported fracquakes in the Musreau Lake/Grande Cache area.
… Earthquakes Canada seismologist Tammy Mulder said she suspects the quake to be induced, caused by hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) activity in the area. The Alberta Energy Regulator says it is investigating whether that is the case. …
Officials say a 4.7 magnitude earthquake recorded south of Grande Prairie on Thursday morning was felt in other areas of the province including Grande Cache, Hinton, Jasper, Whitecourt, and as far away as Prince George, B.C.
Recorded at 8:41 a.m., the quake was initially tracked as a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, but officials from Natural Resouces Canada later downgraded it to a 4.7 Thursday afternoon.
The main area of the earthquake was between Grande Prairie and Grande Cache, and was approximately 7.1 km deep, according to Natural Resources Canada.
“I haven’t had any reports of damage as of yet,” Taimi Mulder, earthquake seismologist with Natural Resources Canada, located at the Pacific Geoscience Centre in Sidney, B.C.
“People have certainly felt the earthquake, and they’ve reported chandeliers shaking and other things shaking, but most people reported they were sitting down and they felt a lot of movement”
Mulder said the earthquake likely lasted just one or two seconds, and the movement can be described as “short and sharp.”
Mulder said that events like hydraulic fracturing, otherwise known as “fracking,” can cause earthquakes to occur, and the province has seen more earthquakes occurring with the oil and gas industry more prominent in the province over the last two decades.
Mulder doesn’t feel like Alberta is in line to see an increase in earthquakes, and the ones that do occur shouldn’t reach large magnitudes that could cause serious damage. It’s behind shameful Canadian quake authorities inappropriately and irresponsibly downplay the risks. Frac quake researchers have warned for years that more and more frac’ing causes bigger and bigger quakes leading to more and more damages and increased risks to life, groundwater and homes and vital public infrastructure like Site C Dam. Heavily frac’d areas, notably in China, Agentina, the USA and Canada are experiencing precisely what has been warned. Canadian frac fields are not exempt from deadly devastating earthquake damages.
“Since fracking has picked up over the years in Alberta, earthquakes can be associated with those. Typically there are few tectonic earthquakes over the years in Alberta,” said Mulder.
“That’s the domain of the Alberta Energy Regulator is to work with industry to keep these sorts of effects to a minimum. I wouldn’t expect anything too much larger than what we just saw.”No way, would I down play the serious risks caused by frac quakes, and AER and BCER’s stupid red light system is useless at preventing the harms and damages because mitigation only happens after the quakes and not immediately, and even when frac jobs are shut down because of causing quakes larger than 4M like these today, more frac’s usually follow.
Mulder recommends that anyone experiencing an earthquake should practice the duck, cover and hold-on method to avoid injury.
“You go and dive underneath a table or under your desk, anything that is available that is firm and steady so that if things should fall off shelves, or there is any structural damage to a building, if you’re experiencing a very large earthquake, that it doesn’t fall on your head and injure you,” said Mulder.
“You need to hold on, just in case that table or object you’re underneath, you don’t want it to shake away from you. This is a muscle memory action, so even if there is light shaking, and people don’t think it’s going to be much larger, I would advocate practising that response, just in case you’re in an earthquakeunfortunate enough to be living in a fraczone.”

AER visual for their useless frac quake stoplight mitigation system which only gets turned on after quakes happen, ensuring mitigation is too late. So stupid. I believe it’s just another industry self regulatory trick to con concerned residents living in danger in frac zones to think their lives and those of their loved ones are protected.
A 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck northern Alberta Thursday morning, with no record of it causing damage.
Earthquakes Canada added that the quake struck at 8:41 this morning as a “suspected industry-related event.”
Earthquakes Canada
Earthquakes Canada added that it was lightly felt in Edson, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Hinton, Whitecourt, and Prince George, B.C.
A flurry of smaller quakes was also recorded, including a 2.3, 2.4, and a 3.5 magnitude, all categorized as “suspected industry-related” events.
Some people in Edmonton took to social media to report that they felt an earthquake Thursday morning.
“I felt it a bit in Edmonton. Very mild,” wrote one Reddit user, while another stated “Just felt a tremor and saw some things sway here in south Edmonton.”
The agency said the quake would have been lightly felt in the surrounding communities of Edson, Grand Prairie and Whitecourt, as well as in Prince George, B.C.

Its magnitude scale says quakes between 3.5 and 5.4 are “often felt, but rarely cause damage.”Minimizing the harms, just like genocidiares. Numerous small frac quakes in Canada and Argentina, and even smaller in the UK, have caused significant damages to well bores, many homes, driveways, water wells and more. Shame on the fucking frac quake minimizing douches at Earthquakes Canada, BCER, AER and industry.
