John A. MacDonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada. In that role, he took bribes from business men for the railroad, executed Louis Riel, imposed the Chinese head tax which limited the ability for Chinese people to immigrate to Canada after they completed work on the railroad, and Created the residential school that harmed and continues to harm Indigenous people. The last school in Canada closed in 1995. All historical accounts show this man to not be unifying or honourable.
Our current PM trying to whitewash his crimes is not acceptable.
I am all for Canadians being united. Let’s be united against prejudice, history denial, fascism, white supremacy, colonialism, bombing and starving children, and other harms. Let’s be united for human rights, public healthcare, public education, housing, mental healthcare, and more.
So @mark-carney.bsky.social, if you want to unite us, do so in a way that does not glorify a man who harmed so many people. Unite us with a Canada of which we can be proud.

Disturbing, offensive, but perhaps fitting that Carney is seeking (much like far-right groups!) to rehab Sir John A’s reputation into that of a Great Uniter, rather than someone who engaged in horrific crimes against Indigenous people and Chinese immigrants (in part to build this project!)
Carney is now set to trample on rights, destroy ecosystems, and devastate the fight against climate change for his projects. So I guess it’s important that he rewrite history in this way, lest he see his own reflection in elements of history that we’ve rightfully condemned!

Those same immigrants were later denied citizenship. The same Indigenous were subjected to atrocities at residential schools and JAM created the RCMP to round them up and tear them from their homes and families. So much history is ignored in favour of a narrative that paints Canada as righteous.
Conservatives all love to show their love for JAM. Carney is no different.
