NEBC: Another Encana/Ovintiv sour gas leak. Sour gas damages the brain, even at low concentrations, but illegal aquifer frac’er, run away to the USA, doesn’t care about air, water, forests, neighbours, workers or communities where it leaks deadly gases, Encana just cares about getting more freebies, subsidies, and more deregulation to legalize its unlawful polluting ass.
POUCE COUPE — The B.C. Energy Regulator is confirming a sour gas leak at an Ovintiv lease in Pouce Coupe.
The leak occurred shortly after midnight on April 3rd, 2024.
Staff were dispatched to the multi-well pad after a monitoring device detected an anomaly, where it was identified that a surface casing leak had occurred.
“The operator activated their Emergency Response Plan, which included air monitoringUpwind from the site to intentionally avoid incriminating data?, site access control measures, and notifying residences within the emergency response zone,” said BCER in a statement.
A resident who lives a short distance from the site told CJDC-TV that he received a phone call from Ovintiv notifying him of the leak at around 2:00 a.m.
The resident says company vehicles monitored his driveway and the nearby area until he received another phone call at around 5:00 p.m. that same day.
Ovintiv informing him that the situation was under control, crews were standing down, and an investigation would be taking place to to figure out best and cheapest way to propagandize residents into accepting more deadly leaksmitigate the risk of another leak in the future.
Ovintiv confirmed that there was no hydrogen sulphate detected offsite.Key word is “detected.” It’s impossible there was no H2S offsite; more likely the company tested using “best practices” to avoid detection (eg testing upwind of the site with the leak, or the best technique: testing after the leak is fixed or the valve shut or whatever fuckupedness).
“The operator mobilized services, stopped the leak, and are continuing to monitor the site while determining route cause and replacing any defective equipment,” said the BCER.
The BCER says their well technical experts worked with Ovintiv to ensure a mitigation plan was in place and to outline reporting requirements.
BCER Compliance & Enforcement Officers and Technical Advisors will be conducting a follow-up inspection to ensurethe company gets away with violating the law and poisoning the neighbourhoodcompliance as Ovintiv monitors the incidentand gets ready for the next leak.
In November of 2021, the B.C. Energy Regulator confirmed there was an uncontrolled release of 4,000 cubic metres of hydrocarbons at the same site after a casing valve was left partially open while crews were completing work on a well.Stupid is as stupid does. I expect Encana/Ovintiv workers have so much brain damage from regular sour gas exposure, their thinking is shot.
In a decision dated November 24, 2023, Ovintiv was ordered to pay a $20,000 fine for the incident.Of course, peanuts, to make sure the company leaks deadly gases again and again and again and again.
Note the cattle next to Encana/Ovintiv’s leaking sour gas multi-well site. The more wells, the more leaks, the more frac’s, even more leaks.
Refer also to (Encana/Ovintiv has had lots more sour incidents, I am not paid for this work, and do not have the stomach or time to keep on top of this very bad company):
Three known gas wells nearby assuredly leaking (all do eventually), but officials suggested the pub was to blame. How many more oil and gas wells are there under or beside that blown up building no one knows about? Ontario has about 30,000 wells without records with no information on their locations or leaks or state of casing (if any).
1999: Petroleum Resources Centre (Ministry of Natural Resources):“In the resulting rush of fortune-seekers, thousands of wells were drilled. As many as 50,000 wells may have been drilled in Ontario, although records are available for only 20,000.”
Of course the “regulator” removed the report from the above link and searching for it resulted in zero (see snap below). Why do they always make things so damned difficult for families to educate and protect themselves?
So, I uploaded the report to my website. Beyond fed up with our cowardly ineffective regulators.
