Kevin O’Leary proposes ‘Wonder Valley’ in Alberta, billed as world’s largest AI data centre park, O’Leary touts Alberta as the best place to build such energy-hungry projects by Chris Varcoe, Dec 10, 2024, Calgary Herald
If you’re going to do something audacious, go really big.
Entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary, also known as Mr. Wonderful on TV shows Shark Tank and Dragons’ Den, is taking that message to heart with a bold proposal to develop what his company says would be the world’s largest AI data centre industrial park — located in northwest Alberta.
And O’Leary touts Alberta as the best place to build such idiotic wasteful water and energy-hungry projects.
On Monday, O’Leary Ventures announced it has signed a letter of intent to purchase land near Grande Prairie from the Municipal District of Greenview, in the Greenview Industrial Gateway, for a proposed AI data centre industrial park.
“Projects like this have extremely attractive returns, and so I think Alberta is waking up to what they have just now. I mean, they could easily lead globally in data centres,” O’Leary said Monday in an interview.Smells like luring in Harper and investors into a big fucking trap, like the frac’ers did/do losing investors many billions of dollars.
“We are talking about the demand right now for data centres in the next 15 years — nobody has what Alberta has. Nobody.”Ya, non stop shit show circle jerks letting the rich like O’Leary rape Alberta and her people blind, and destroying air, land, water, and wildlife/fish
The announcement comes days after the province released its road map to attract $100 billion of investment into data centres over the next five years, although many other jurisdictions are also pursuing such spending and jobs.
Data centres focused on artificial intelligence require huge amounts of water andelectricity.
A report last month by consultancy McKinsey & Co. estimated global demand for data centre capacity could triple by the end of this decade.
In Alberta, 12 proposed data centre projects, representing more than 6,500 MW of potential load, have already applied to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) to connect to the province’s transmission system, although there are no guarantees they will proceed.Fucking insane, the grid already can’t cope with the endless shit show wild wild west greed of the rich and richer.
Monday’s announcement by the Municipal District of Greenview — and its Greenview Industrial Gateway (GIG) — confirms a letter of intent has been signed that would allow O’Leary Ventures to acquire and then develop land in the area. But, it’s not a commitment he will?
Called Wonder Valley — playing off his moniker on TV — the proposal would see the company develop off-grid natural gas and geothermal power generation infrastructure to provide electricity to offer to hyperscalers looking for places to operate data centres.
Once fully built out over a five-to-10-year period, the area in northwest Alberta could eventually offer 7.5 gigawatts of energy to its tenants. The area has available land and water, access to fibre-optic networks and proximity to ample supplies of natural gas that can create electricity, O’Leary said.
“It’s almost impossible to find what Alberta has — because it’s not just power,” he said.
“You need people, you need fibre. There are so many things that are required to build a data centre of this scale.”
The first phase would be 1.4 gigawatts, costing about US$2 billion, while the entire development could top $70 billion if fully built out, factoring in data centres, infrastructure, power and other structures, the company said.
Premier Danielle Smith met with O’Leary earlier this month while she was in Abu Dhabi and they toured a data centre, her office confirmed Monday.
Alberta Technology Minister Nate Glubish said access to electricity — and the ability of companies to provide their own power — and speed to market are two key factors for data centre developers.
“The proposed infrastructure from the O’Leary group, being natural gas power with the option to go net-zero in the futuran option that is impossible to fulfil, just scamming lies and more scamming lies, and endless promises by the ultra rich to mitigate their deadly pollution while never doing so it can be up and running in two years and scale up to 7,500 megawatts over a five-to-10-year period,” said Glubish.
“This is a game-changer.”
However, natural gas-fired power generation would create greenhouse gas emissions, and most large tech firms have aggressive net-zero targets. That’s all they are. Targets that never arrive. Just the usual empty promises that are really just big lies/propaganda
Expected demand for electricity for data centres is growing faster than the timelines for building new wind and solar transmission, with developerswhat the fuck are you talking about? Dildo Danielle’s new rules for alternate energies (released a few days ago) basically killed such projects in the future and her ban on them last year drove $billions in such projects and their jobs out of the province. The dildo on over serving her big oil, gas, bitumen and frac masters increasingly looking for places where they can get a direct connection to gas, said Ben Levitt with S&P Global Commodity Insights.
“These data centre operators still have clean energy mandates, nearly all of them, and using gas is viewed as kind of a near-term necessity,” Levitt said from Pittsburgh.
“So where’s the clean energy going to come from over the longer term?”
The proponents note the region will have access to underground sequestration for carbon capture and storagewhich has been proven over and over and over, in Canada and the USA, to not work. Costs are extreme, and the injected CO2 does not stay put, it always leaks out, as well as future geothermal power. The land is along Highway 40, about 50 kilometres south of Grand Prairie.
Kyle Reiling, executive director of the Greenview Industrial Gateway, said he first met with O’Leary’s team at Bankers Hall in September to discuss the proposal.
Within three days, the group was flying over the site in a helicopter.
“It’s going to create thousands of jobs,” Reiling said.Where have we heard that lie before? Again and again and again.
“Right now, the O’Leary group is going through their economic analysis of the project that they just announced today, and it really is like a race. Everyone’s pushing as fast as possible.”I think they’re just trying to terrify investors stupid, fire up their greed, get them to put their money down before others do, and before realizing what a shit risk operation it is.
And there are many projects and proposals in the contest. Last week, Meta announced it will invest $14 billion in Louisiana to build its largest AI-optimized data centre.
Analyst Carson Kearl of energy analytics firm Enverus said demand for AI is growing, but with all of the projects in Alberta on the drawing board, they’d lead to a 100 per cent increase in Alberta’s peak power load within the next five to 10 years — if they were all built.
“The idea that you need to have seven and a half (gigawatts) all in one place — so far away from the end markets and not in the United States — just makes me think that there’s a lot of obstacles to overcome in order to find hyperscaler tenants looking to do their training there,” he said.
But MD of Greenview Reeve Tyler Olsen said the project would have a huge impact on the region, and the entire province.
“This seems to be the perfect fit,” Olsen said.Ya, and some Albertans are more brain dead that others. Lots of frac’d sour gas in your neighbourhood.
“Coming from this area . . . you think big, but I’ve never thought this big before, so it’s taken a little bit to wrap my head around it.
“But it’s exciting.”
Lynette Brown:
“And O’Leary touts Alberta as the best place to build such energy-hungry projects”
Yes, a province that stumbled through a cold snap last January.
A province that refuses to build cleaner energy sources of the future.
A province that happily allows agriculture land to be rezoned industrial so AI centre…can be built but not solar panel farms.
A province that is fighting tooth and nail to keep the fossil fuel industry alive.
Dave Smith:
Energy hungry, water hungry, noise polluting. But absolutely go ahead with them, the hold on renewable energy projects for “views” and “farmland” doesn’t apply to you!
David Thompson:
No, no and no again. Business people who become television celebrities quickly morph into the charlatans they really are. Anyone willing to sit down with Smith and who comes away with Smith’s support is not to be trusted. O’leary needs to keep his interest out of Alberta and Alberta politics.
“Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary eyes huge $70B AI tech park in Alberta by Allison Stephen, Dec 9 2024, Daily Hive
A $70 billion AI data centre industrial park is being proposed for northwestern Alberta, with a well-known Canadian investor attached to the project.
On Monday, the Municipal District of Greenview announced it had signed a letter of intent with Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary Ventures to purchase and develop thousands of acres of land within the Greenview Industrial Gateway (GIG) just south of Grande Prairie.
If the mega industrial park is built, it will be considered the largest of its kind in the world.
Wonder Valley, which is planned to roll out in multiple phases, would include building off-grid natural gas and geothermal power infrastructure to support the behemoth AI data centre industrial park.
A seemingly AI-generated video promoting the project was posted on the O’Leary Ventures website. It depicts hyper-futuristic buildings set in a valley where “technology and nature come together in perfect harmony.”I tried to watch it, it’s ghastly. AI is nothing but gross. Stupid stupid stupid greedy egomaniac O’Leary; stupid stupid stupid liar Dildo Danielle; stupid stupid stupid MD of Greenview.
O’Leary Ventures, chaired by Canadian multi-millionaire and former Dragons’ Den investor Kevin O’Leary, claims the area’s cold-weather climate, skilled labour force, and Alberta’s pro-rapebusiness policies make the GIG an “ideal site” for the project.
“My joint venture team, led by Paul Palandjian, CEO of O’Leary Ventures, and Carl Agren, CEO of HPC and AI Data Centres, has sourced what we believe is the most compelling site in North America to generate and offer 7.5 gigawatts of low-cost power to hyperscalers over the next 5-10 years,” said O’Leary.Which I expect will drive up the cost of power for ordinary Albertans even higher than already the highest cost in Canada.
@ABeducator:
“Alberta is expected to have the highest rate of inflation…one that’s actually rising while the rest of the country’s falls…The key drivers? The cost of water, fuel and electricity, all of which fall under the…provincial government.”
The provinces are driving inflation now
$330.29 for one month’s electricty!
Alberta Advantage, the rich robbing you unable to feed your kids.
“With existing permits, proximity to stranded natural gas, pipeline infrastructure, water, and a fibre optic network just a few kilometres away, we will be in the ground and up and running sooner than any scale project of its kind.”
The project’s first phase, producing 1.4 gigawatts of power, is projected to cost $2 billion, with annual expansions of 1 gigawatt increments. The total investment, including infrastructure and ancillary structures, is expected to exceed $70 billion over its lifetime.
“This is fantastic news for Alberta. Our efforts to attract investment, grow our technology and innovation sector, and leverage our natural and human resources are being noticed. I’m excited to watch this project unfold in the months and years to come,” said Premier Danielle Smith.
Plans also include engaging Indigenous communities to create a mutually beneficial gagged and abusiverelationship.
The MD of Greenview stated Wonder Valley is expected to attract attention from global investors and industry leaders, setting a “new benchmark” for large-scale data infrastructure projects worldwide.
“Beyond jobs and financial benefits, this venture promises to establish Alberta and Canada as world idiots leaders and as a center of wasted energy, destroyed water, and wildlife made insane from data centre noise and dying of thirst excellence in this emerging industry.”
Neil Richards
I always thought Kevin O’Leary supported Canadian innovation and this its exciting news to watch unfold. We have a progressive Premier who will be the perfect person to show the world what Alberta can offer the world. Exciting times. I am proud to be a lifelong Conservative and entrepreneur who knows what hardwork and forward thinking can do.

World’s Largest AI Data Centre Industrial Park ‘Wonder Valley’ coming to the Greenview Industrial Gateway Press Release by MD of Greenview, December 9th, 2024
December 9, 2024
Kevin O’Leary in cooperation with the Municipal District of Greenview to develop world’s largest AI Data Centre Industrial Park ‘Wonder Valley’ in the Greenview Industrial Gateway (“GIG”) near Grande Prairie in North West Alberta, Canada:
Alberta, Canada: The Municipal District of Greenview is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with O’Leary Ventures to build an off-grid natural gas and geothermal power infrastructure to support the largest AI data centre industrial park in the world. The GIG has signed a Letter of Intent with O’Leary Ventures for the purchase and development of thousands of acres of land within the Greenview Industrial Gateway and to the south of the GIG. This transformative project is both a monumental achievement for Greenview and a pivotal moment for Alberta, Canada, and North America in terms of global business investment.
Wonder Valley, which will be rolled out in multiple phases, marks the creation of an entirely new industry sector for the region and country. The scope and scale of this development will provide a massive influx of job opportunities during construction and beyond, bringing long-term employment and driving economic growth. With the addition of job opportunities and a highly skilled workforce, the development will also stimulate a significant rise in tax revenue, bolstering local and regional economies. Are you guys fucking idiots? Ego O’Leary is in my view a con man, he’s gonna come up with a zillion ways to scam you, suck you dry, shake you senseless, and not pay taxes the way the oil and gas companies in Alberta refuse to pay theirs (which Dildo Danielle gleefully enables).
“This is fantastic news for Alberta. Our efforts to attract investment, grow our technology and innovation sector, and leverage our natural and human resources are being noticed. I’m excited to watch this project unfold in the months and years to come.” said Alberta Premier, Danielle Smith.
“The GIG project is proof that Alberta is a destination of choice for data centres and their corresponding power generation infrastructure. This exciting announcement from O’Leary Ventures demonstrates that the work our government has done over the last nine months to promote Alberta to data centre operators and investors is paying off. Alberta is open for business, and we’re just getting started.” states Minister of Technology and Innovation, Nate Glubish.
“This is more than just an investment in land; it’s an investment in the future of innovation and economic expansion for Canada,” said Tyler Olsen, Reeve of the MD of Greenview “We’re excited to take this step forward, creating lasting benefits not only for our Municipality but for the surrounding communities, and the country as a whole.”
“My joint venture team led by Paul Palandjian, CEO O’Leary Ventures and Carl Agren, CEO, HPC and AI Data Centres, has sourced what we believe is the most compelling site in all North America to generate and offer 7.5 GW of low-cost power to hyperscalers over the next 5-10 years. Given existing permits, proximity to stranded sources whose stranded gas? And has Dildo Danielle promised it to O’Leary’s insanely water and energy wasting “wonder” AI for free? of natural gas, pipeline infrastructure, water and a fiber optic network within just a few kilometers of the Greenview Industrial Gateway, we will be in the ground and up and running sooner than any scale project of its kind.” said Kevin O’Leary, Chairman of O’Leary Ventures.
“We will engineer and build a redundant power solution that meets the modern AI compute reliability standards. The first phase of 1.4 GW will be approximately US$ 2 billion with subsequent annual roll out of redundant power in 1 GW increments. The total investment over the lifetime of the project will be over $70 billion when considering the infrastructure, power, data centres and ancillary structures.”
“The GIG’s ideal cold-weather climate, a highly skilled labor force, Alberta’s pro-business policies and attractive tax regime make the GIG the perfect site for this project. We want to deliver transformative economic impact and the lowest possible carbon emissions afforded to us by the quality of gas in the area, our efficient design and the potential to add Geothermal power as well. Together, these factors create a blueprint for sustainability and success that can be recognized worldwide. This is the Greenview Model” said Mr. O’Leary.
“One of our core values for the project is to engage with First Nations Indigenous communities to create a mutually beneficial relationship and one that honors the people and the lands for many years to come,” And suck your water dry, and rape your community, health, spirit and wellbeing dead said Paul Palandjian CEO – O’Leary Ventures.
The unique project is expected to attract attention from global investors and industry leaders, setting a new benchmark for large-scale data infrastructure projects worldwide. Beyond jobs and financial benefits, this venture promises to establish Alberta and Canada as world leaders and as a center of excellence in this emerging industry.

… According to a recent report, data centers will use 8% of total U.S. power by 2030, up from 3% in 2022. And if operators continue to locate the centers near existing communities and prioritize profits above all else, then the story of Granbury could become the story of countless small towns across America.
Alberta already has problems with a shitty unreliable extremely water destroying polluting grid (supplied mainly by toxic radioactive frac’d gas), getting worse by the day with stupid Dildo Danielle essentially banning solar and wind power to serve her big oil polluting masters.
Dr. Bhaloo, the ENT doctor in Granbury, says he’s seen an uptick since the new year in patients whose ailments—including ringing in their ears, vertigo, and headaches—could be related to the mine. “These people here, they’re good country folks, and Bitcoin, to them, is almost a foreign alien thing,” he says. “They don’t understand it. And [the noise] is detrimental to their health and anxiety.” Dr. Stephen Krzeminski, another Granbury ENT, agrees.
“Sonic damage is real, there’s no disputing that,” he says. Krzeminski says he believes the mine is causing “mental and physical” health issues. “Imagine if I had vuvuzela in your ear all the time,” he says.
The level of noise is appalling to Dr. Thomas Münzel, a German cardiologist who is a leader in the growing field of scientific researchers measuring the impact of urban and industrial noise on humans. For the last 15 years, Münzel has studied how transportation and urban noise, especially at night, can be debilitating stressors on the heart, brain, and cardiovascular systems. In one study, he exposed young, healthy students to noise events up to 63 decibels, and found that their vascular function diminished after just a single night.
In other studies, he’s found that nighttime noise pollution directly leads to heart failure and molecular changes in the brain, which may lead to impaired cognitive development of children and make some people more prone to developing dementia. … “The most spectacular cardiovascular diseases will develop. They have to stop the machines.”
