Sept 14 & 15: Carney’s betrayals against Canada deepen. Will he use failed trade talks to force in more austerity and steal much more from Canadians to give to his rich polluting friends, many of them American? Carney and his gangsters are using our pensions to finance the American Nazi AI bubble, putting our money into pockets of fucking kid and women abusing creeps. JB Branch: “Big Tech knows it has lost public support on AI, and the PR machine is now working overtime.”

@consbegone.bsky.social:

This!

Carney funneled money from CANADIAN scientists to bring in Americans. Talk about an inferiority complex, eh? His elbows up is rather weak here.

#CBC journos please cover this.

@estherverheyen.bsky.social:

Meanwhile excellent scientists across Canada are shuttering up their labs and unable to pay trained staff because the CIHR budgets have not kept pace with inflation. I have nothing against the new recruits, I just wish that Canada wanted to support all the folks aready here trying to advance knowledge.

@sashafury.myatproto.social:

You will, of course, note that it wasn’t the Canadians in Trump’s ICE prisons that constituted the line in the sand for Carney.

(To clarify, I don’t think it’s any worse to put Canadians in ICE prisons than to put anyone else in there. I’m just pointing out that Carney doesn’t actually give a fuck about Canadians, despite his rhetoric.)Carney’s cruelty to Canadians makes me think he hates us, and our country, loves USA, loves Trump (I think Carney wants to be Trump because he’s addicted to power and money. Carney’s a con man like Trump, but the orange kid rapist is vulgar, Carney has manners, charm and knows how to bamboozle the masses better than Trump does.)

@chrishill.bsky.social:

The Canadians in ICE prisons do not have enough wealth to concern Carney.

@gregbester.bsky.social:

He found a line?

@sashafury.myatproto.social:

Yeah, he didn’t like Trump putting limits on our other trade deals. His line in the sand was other capitalists’ interests.

I also think he realized he was about to lose his massive support if he signed that deal.

That may be so, but who’s actually benefitting?‘Cuz it sure ain’t regular, everyday Canadians. #CanPoli #CdnPoli

The guy in that photo is ~70 years old. I’m sure he’s brilliant, but how many productive years does he have left?

The money we’re spending on him could have brought in 5 great post-docs, at least a couple of whom would be likely to put down roots here and have just as distinguished careers.

Had a recent conversation with a prominent science policy person who wondered whether these scholars will remain in Canada or return to the U.S. if/when U.S. politics renormalize. Permanent poaching or extended visiting scholars program?www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic…

@consbegone.bsky.social:

That funding came directly out of funding for CANADIAN researchers.

@trantteam.bsky.social:

…. I also really resent the implicit conclusion that we have no talent here in Canadian Academia worth supporting at this level. Or that the funding wouldn’t be better spread out over all of us.

We are the best in the world here. It is a kick in the teeth to see this program.Carney makes it clear every day that he hates Canadians and loves Americans.

@emmettmacfarlane.com:

This program was flawed from the start, in large part due to it coming at the same time university budgets are being destroyed by the provinces. We’d have no problem attracting int’l talent – and building domestic talent – if we maintained adequate institutional funding.

Really? Rich guys at PM’s summit oppose Trump? by Yves Engler, Aug 28, 2026

Mark Carney’s CEO summit serves Trump’s billionairist, militarist, ecocidal agenda. Any effort to frame it as challenging the US president should be ridiculed.

On September 14 and 15 Carney will host what the Globe and Mail recently labelled “the largest gathering of top business leaders ever to assemble in the country.” Liberal Party supporters want to frame it as a reaction to Trump’s economic sabotage, but Carney’s investment summit largely promotes the US president’s project. As the prime minister himself stated when addressing a similar type of corporate crowd in New York three months ago, “Canada Strong will help make America great again.”

US capital will be well represented in Toronto. Top Wall Street players Blackstone and Blackrock are headliners at Carney’s privatization summit. The chairman and CEO of Blackstone, Steve Schwarzman, was a leading donor to Trump’s super PAC and chaired Trump’s Strategic and Policy Forum.

More than two dozen countries are expected to be represented at the summit. None of the invitees, however, appear to be from US geopolitical competitors (China, Russia, Iran, etc.).

At a policy level, the summit aligns with the Donald’s outlook. The get-together will focus on profit-making opportunities in privatization, fossil fuel extraction, military contracts and AI data centres. A just released pre-summit TD economics report headlined “Triggering a Canadian Investment Supercycle”, focuses on fossil fuels and militarism. According to Canada’s second largest bank, 34% of the potential $1.5 trillion in “investment” opportunities are in tar sands and other energy infrastructure largely designed to extract more fossil fuels. After energy, the second biggest profit-making hub is in arms production. The war economy is cited as possibly responsible for 27% of the desired investment super cycle. So over 60% of the hoped-for capitalist boom is in two sectors that should be either greatly reduced or entirely phased out. (According to TD, the rest is AI at 15%, resources 13% and transportation 11%.)

To unleash the investment super cycle, TD calls (surprise, surprise) to cut taxes on the wealthy and streamline rules restricting corporations. While some of these proposals are unlikely to be officially broached at the investment summit, they have been part of Carney’s policy agenda.

While not quite as extreme, the former banker led Carney administration is stacked with multimillionaire former corporate executives. For example, Carney’s ambassador to the US and a point person in organizing the investment summit, Mark Wiseman, is a highly wealthy former Blackrock executive.

Carney left Brookfield Asset Management with several million dollars in stock options and a slew of conflicts as Thursday’s Toronto Star highlighted in “Conflict screen excludes Mark Carney from eight more government decisions”. As a result of his Brookfield stocks, the prime minister is precluded from involvement in many decisions that could directly benefit his significant wealth. The government has publicly identified 103 companies that could potentially present conflicts and the screen has reportedly been invoked 25 times since Carney became PM. Democracy Watch co-founder Duff Conacher noted,

“Prime Minister Carney has as many financial conflicts as Trump.”

Carney has far more in common with the US president than commonly recognized. The upcoming CEO Summit will highlights it.

For those seeking a radical break from the Carney/Trump billionairist, militarist, ecocidal agenda various social movement organizations are organizing multiple counter forums before and during the CEO summit. On September 14 Capitalism can’t be fixed, Leadnow, Revolutionary Communist Party, Council of Canadians and others are promoting a mass protest. Join the carnival against capitalism. It will be a decidedly anti-Trumpian affair.

@christyceeck.bsky.social:

I cannot get the image of the human beings running for their lives in Nepal as the wave hit out of my mind. No one should die such a horrible death.

“As climate change continues to increase global temperatures, permafrost thaw will accelerate and the likelihood of such landslides will increase”Which is one reason I am constantly stunned when humans intentionally make babies, sometimes three, sometimes five, sometimes ten. They are forcing their offspring into horrific suffering, purely for selfish reasons (religion is selfish), suffering the likes of which most of us can’t even imagine. We’ve known since the 60’s, we must dramatically reduce our baby making and pollution to protect earth’s livability, but no, we just keep making more and more and more babies, and our pollution keeps getting worse, every fucking day.

Imagine missing a $1.5B budget hole related to the very industry the Premier champions. Quelle surprise. Many Canadian politicians are overstating the importance of fossil fuels to our economy. David Eby, Mark Carney, and Danielle Smith chief among them. Fossils. www.nsnews.com/economy-law-…

Head of federal agency organizing Carney’s investment summit resigns by Jameson Berkow, Aug 28, 2026, The Globe and Mail

The head of the federal agency tasked with organizing Prime Minister Mark Carney’s high-stakes Canada InvestmentSteal from Canadians to give to the uber rich, most of them polluting life-destroying American Nazi fuckersSummit is resigning.

Laurel Broten, chief executive officer of Invest in Canada, informed her staff this week that she will be leaving her position, according to a source familiar with the matter. The Globe and Mail is not identifying the source, who was not authorized to disclose that information.

Ms. Broten is a former Ontario cabinet minister and Bay Street litigator. She has led the agency responsible for attracting foreign direct investment in Canada since 2022. Messages left on Ms. Broten’s voicemail and an email sent to her personal account were not immediately returned.

Invest in Canada is helping coordinate the Prime Minister’s inaugural gathering of top global business leaders in Toronto on Sept. 14 and 15 alongside two of the country’s largest institutional investors who are serving as co-hosts: The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board.Ordinary Canadians better start strict budgeting, I bet Carney’s going to take give our CPP to the rich Americana he loves so much – the war machine, oil and gas companies and AI Nazis, and when the AI bubble busts, which Carney knows damned well it’s going to (AI doesn’t make money, it’s being forced down our throats to spy on our every move, word, act), the billions of dollars in losses will be on the backs of ordinary Canadians so that the rich don’t take any hits. I bet Harper will do the same or is already doing the same with AIMCo’s money (pensions belonging to Albertans who’ve already lost masses of money because of corrupt politicians fucking things up at AIMCo).

The summit, which is expected to bring together the largest group of financial decision-makers ever to assemble in Canada, has garnered even more attention in the wake of a rapidly evolving trade war with the United States. As many as 250 executives from 28 countries that collectively manage nearly $120-trillion are expected to attend the event. Mr. Carney is under pressure to deliver on a promise to attract $500-billion in new private-sector investment over the next five years.

Ms. Broten has been playing a key role in planning the summit’s logistical details, including booking venues and selecting plenary session topics. The exact date when her resignation will take effect is unclear, though she announced her departure internally barely two weeks before the most high-profile event in her agency’s history is due to take place.

CPP Investments Commits to $225 Million in Construction Financing for Ontario Data Centre

Toronto, ON (July 31, 2025) – Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) today announced that it is providing funding to construct a 54 MW hyperscale expansion to a data centre in Cambridge, Ontario.

CPP Investments will invest C$225 million in the project by way of a 50% interest in a construction loan, alongside Deutsche Bank Private Credit & Infrastructure, which served as the lead lender on this transaction and funded the remaining 50% of the loan.

The data centre is being developed as a joint venture between Related Digital, a global, vertically integrated data centre development and investment platform, TowerBrook Capital Partners, an international investment management firm, and Ascent, a leader in planning, developing and operating data centres. The demand for hyperscale data centres in Toronto and the surrounding region is strong and the project has been pre-leased to a market-leading GPU-focused AI cloud compute provider on a long-term basis.

“The rapid expansion of digital infrastructure—driven by accelerating demand for cloud services, data storage, and the transformative potential of aMark Carney forcing on all Canadians (because Trump is doing the same to Americans)artificial intelligence—is fueling strong growth in data centre development,” said Geoffrey Souter, Head of Real Assets Credit. “CPP Investments has deep expertise in this sector I think Sir, you lie. Few have any expertise, never mind “deep” expertise in AI, and no one knows just how evil AI is or is intended to become or what it will do when unleashed. If you knew, there is no way you would force AI on anyone, never mind risk the pensions of Canadians to finance this fucking Nazi bubble making a few incredibly evil men rich – rich on stealing our pensions. Nazi AI creators are evil lying secretive shits in a race to end humanity because their egos have explodedand an investment in the construction financing of this project marks another milestone in advancing our global data centre strategy and strengthens our presence in the Canadian market.”

CPP Investments currently has data centre joint ventures and investments in key hubs globally, including North and South America, Asia Pacific, including Australia, and Europe, in addition to investments in publicly held companies that operate data centres in Canada and around the world.

Watchdog Denounces 'Staggering and Disgusting' Hypocrisy of AI Industry Giants

Watchdog Denounces ‘Staggering and Disgusting’ Hypocrisy of AI Industry Giants, “Put plainly, Silicon Valley is the problem threatening our ways of life.” by Brad Reed, Aug 28, 2026, Common Freams

Government watchdog Public Citizen on Thursday hit back at the artificial intelligence industry for warning about the dire threats posed by its own technology after it spent years trying to block any government regulations that could have curtailed dangerous AI behavior that experts and progressive lawmakers have warned about for years.

In an open letter sent on Thursday, dozens of tech companies—including OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft—claimed that there is a “limited window” to defend against AI-executed cyberattacks, which they said “will become far more widespread and sophisticated as models around the world become increasingly capable.”

Progressive Caucus Chair Leads Demand for AI CEOs to Testify After Hacking Spree Revelations

JB Branch, director of federal AI governance and technology policy at Public Citizen, urged lawmakers to be deeply skeptical of Big Tech’s messaging on the issue and the industry’s proposed plan of action, which he said would further enrich Silicon Valley without providing any safeguards for the public when it comes to AI development.

Big Tech does not get to unleash powerful AI systems, fight tooth and nail against meaningful regulation,” said Branch, “and then cry for help when the dangers they helped create come knocking.”

Branch noted that the tech industry has insisted for years that there should be no government intervention into developing technology, supposedly because it would put the US at risk of “losing” the AI race to China.

Now, Branch said, they are running to the government and demanding fast action to help solve a problem they created.

“That hypocrisy is equal parts staggering and disgusting,” Branch said. “If the threat is serious enough to demand urgent action from the government, then it is serious enough to demand binding rules, independent oversight, and accountability from the companies creating it.”Better yet, shut AI the fuck down. Permanently. The bad far out weighs any tiny bit of good (most of which is too expensive for ordinary people anyway)

The AI firms’ open letter comes as the tech industry appears acutely concerned about public backlash to its products. The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Big Tech firms who gave heavily to President Donald Trump have been scrambling to donate to Democratic candidates ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.Scrambling to bribe them so as to get continued billions of the public’s money and no regulations.

Cooper Teboe, a Silicon Valley donor adviser and Democratic strategist, has told Trump-funding tech companies that they will pay a big price unless they repair their relationships with Democrats whom they’ve alienated by going all-in on MAGA.

“You’re going to be totally fucked next year or you’re going to figure it out this year and you’re going to make amends,” Teboe said, “and amends are going to be much more costly than they were previously.”

As Branch put it, “Big Tech knows it has lost public support on AI, and the PR machine is now working overtime.”

Despite industry efforts to control narratives and members of Congress, he said, the American people “aren’t going to forget the harms these companies unleashed, the regulations they fought, or their promises that AI could replace their jobs.”

“Silicon Valley is the problem threatening our ways of life,” Branch concluded. “It’s hard to take them seriously when they invented the problem in the first place.”
