Germany and Argentina: Building Bridges for Joint Advocacy Debunking the “Gas as a Bridge” Narrative/Alemania y Argentina: Construyendo puentes para la incidencia conjunta

Via Zoom, with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and English.

This workshop is co-organized by Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (FARN), Asociación Argentina de Abogados Ambientalistas, and the DUH. It aims to bring together allied organizations working on fossil fuel phase-out strategies across legal advocacy, government engagement, and financial sector accountability.

The discussion will focus in particular on the growing LNG expansion linked to Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale formation, the emerging regulatory gap on methane governance, and how evolving EU methane regulations may create strategic leverage points for coordinated advocacy between organizations in Argentina, Germany, and across Latin America.

Neuquén Argentina: Frac’ing doing what it does best while it poisons communities and causes damaging earthquakes: Threaten freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and the press; Punishments towards harmed Mapuche Indigenous increase including arrests and injuring kids. Frac’ing is impossible to do safely, and impossible to do without violating rights.

Frac quakes “menacing Argentina” and Indigenous families in their homes as officials and companies lie, deny, delay, keep secrets, lie, deny, delay, start collecting data years after baseline conditions are obliterated to establish “baseline” conditions and commit to committing to planning a plan (to blame nature) for the endless harms just like in Canada and USA, “Yep, the same shit all over again with greater force.” Oh so natural.

Argentina: “Trail of Impunity” Toxic frac waste scandal exposed as lawyers present new evidence

Indigenous Mapuche pay high price for Argentina’s magical illusion of sudden frac wealth, Community tell of devastating environmental impact. “Oil companies aren’t extracting hydrocarbons from Vaca Muerta. They’re extracting subsidies.” They dumped their waste without any treatment and threw limestone on it to cover it up. “The greed of governments is killing the world. The world is not going to end. We are going to end, because we’re killing ourselves.”

Watch your money Argentina! Frackers have spilled billions of dollars in red ink. Fracked oil & natural gas have been financial disasters. “Cash flows from fracking-focused oil and gas companies across the US have been negative for decades — even when oil and gas prices were higher than they are now.”

Argentina: Unanimous vote! Entre Rios province creates more protection for Guaraní Aquifer region and prohibits “The prospecting, exploration and exploitation of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons by non-conventional methods, including the fracking technique.” This on top of over 50 municipal bans across the country.
