They further added, “Land acknowledgements have never seized private property, cancelled a mortgage, repossessed a pick up truck, or altered a single title deed anywhere in Canada. … No one is going anywhere. Canada will survive the brief moment of honesty. Until then, Chiefs across the region continue to reassure the public that land acknowledgements have not, to date, resulted in any land back.”

I’m embarrassed that this guy is my MP.
He’s behaving like he’s representing a safe Conservative seat in some rural Alberta riding. But this riding has regularly been orange or red.
The Tla’amin response was priceless! They are a well-established force here, with a strong presence north of Powell River.
I think he got in strictly on outside money, combined with a large retiree presense. He plastered the area in signs when he ran. If that had been followed with some humility and reconciliation, he could have stood a chance. And while leaning Con, retirees are a fickle lot.
I’m thinking he’ll disappear in the next election.
Like his boss, he’s a “splitter”, not a “joiner”. He’s making too many enemies.

We acknowledge elders. We acknowledge peers who have more experience. We acknowledge teammates who have more talent. We acknowledge family members who show nurturing.
Why not pause to think about our place on earth and those who have stood here before us?
Gunn’s statement is not sincere. It is veiled incitation. Gaslighting.
If a meeting was opened with acknowledgment of Mother Earth would it radical and dangerous?
If thousands of sports fans can sit still during the playing of two national anthems before a game, I’m pretty sure politicians and bureaucrats can safely take a moment to reflect on collective history before addressing the agenda.

Gunn is by no means beloved here. If it hadn’t been an open field (the previous NDP MP didn’t run), and if the “Carney Effect” hadn’t split the left, he would have lost.
