@TheBeaverton:
Danielle Smith assures Jasper residents that wildfire didn’t burn any of the money she saved by cutting fire programs
@NoGunsInCanada:
Just remember that the Alberta wildland firefigthers protecting Jasper tonight inhaling burnt carpet and car tires don’t have pensions or any health benefits. Not even physio coverage. No spending account. Nothing.
Dear Lying Big Oil Dildo Danielle (nice god awful fake tears cold-as-ice vomit-inducing presser today), Mike Ellis, Todd Loewen, UCP, and your blind brain dead cult worshippers: Read what happened in our past horrific wildfires in Alberta; read climate change science; read Fire Weather by John Vaillant
If you are too lazy and arrogant to read, or if you can’t read, watch Vaillant’s presentation to the fed’s parliamentary committee last year – it’s only 5 minutes, so surely it won’t kill a con anywhere:
– oh wait, Albertan cons and their cult, do not heed anything to, by or from the feds, Alberta cons just demand more and more federal money as Alberta cuts funding for wildfire fighting, training, services, equipment, disasters, and greedily take federal money to give to their own pockets and rich pals, while blaming Trudeau for every fucking fuck up and intentional cruelty by Smith and her vile evangelical con party.

isuallyBetter@Isuckatpicking:
So now that everyone in Alberta is an expert on jurisdiction maybe now they can stop blaming Trudeau for housing, healthcare and education and realize that’s 100% the jurisdiction of our incompetent UCP government.
2024 07 24: Monday breaks the record for the hottest day ever on Earth
“this could be the warmest it has been in 120,000 years because of human-caused climate change … longer term average temperatures have not been this high since long before humans developed agriculture.”
Cougsta, Chud Blocker @cougsta:
Danielle Smith to the Feds: Stay out of my backyard!
Also Danielle Smith: Jasper is not in my backyard.
Lisa@LeezerShort:
And also “can we borrow the army?”
@BSwirlsi:
Wind – At this point, I can only see vast empty spaces where their brains should be
Sean Amato@JSJamato:
Slave Lake (2011), Fort McMurray (2016), Jasper (2024).
We’re getting people out sooner. I can confirm that.
Besides that, have we learned nothing?
Minister Ellis just said nobody could see this coming, but I’ve literally seen it twice before.
Heartbreaking. #Jasper
Anyway, the focus now needs to be on saving parts of the town, supporting the people of Jasper.
But it’s just so hard to see this keep happening in Alberta.

Waterton 2017
Emily@Peskyniece:
Jasper is a National Park, yes. But there is no NATIONAL firefighting service. THAT is up to the province. The Feds send HELP to the PROVINCIAL firefighters. This is a Danielle Smith and UCP fuck up. Not Trudeau. #JasperNationalPark #DanielleSmithIsUnfitToLead
Alberta You See Pee @youseepeeYYC:
Conservatives will argue that Jasper is a National Park and under federal jurisdiction, and try to blame the fires on the Federal Government.
Conservatives will want you to ignore the policies of the #UCP which have put us all at risk.
anik1968@ABDanielleSmith:
congrats Smith .. useless as usual
Mike Ellis@MikeEllisUCP:
Alberta is facing significant wildfire activity across the province. I spoke with my federal counterparts today about how this complex situation continues to impact the health and safety of Albertans. My colleague, Minister Todd Loewen, and I have requested assistance from the Canadian Armed Forces to ensure all resources are brought to bear on this situation.
Dr. ACME Sales Rep., Ph.D.@ACMESalesRep:
You’ll note he disingenuously claimed to have requested support from the Armed Forces rather than from the federal government.
MaggieMay @CailinasEirinn:
Typical.
Cut funds for fighting wildfires then run to the Feds for help.
While non stop lying to the media/public, blaming the feds, notably Trudeau
@LoyalCanadian4u:
Cpc/ucp/ontPc/saskparty playbook.
Angie B@siciliaclassica:
And then tell the Fed to stay in their lane. That woman is less than stellar as a Premier!!
@EdanNelson:
Yeah and you’re gonna run to the feds after they send help and say they didn’t offer soon enough. This is squarely on you and @ABDanielleSmith
CEO, Pierre Poilievre’s Baloney Factory@JanA55_D:
Please tell me you won’t be asking for FEDERAL ASSISTANCE. Because we all have heard how your province is fully capable of separating and going it alone….
Patrick Beauchesne@Distilled84
The UCP government has deliberately de-fundedAnd given the money to oil patch billionaires to make them richerwhat was one of the top wildfire programs in the world. Your government has been happy to constantly tell the federal government to stay out of Alberta until you face the consequences of your poor decision making.
Deryk Graham:
I was disappointed to hear from the owner of the Malinge Lodge that she blamed the PM for her loss. She should know better .. in emergencies, the feds are not allowed to provide their help until a province requests it .. that is well articulated in provincial and federal emergencies law The PM replied immediately after receiving the provincial request and the CAF has been deployed.While Trudeau is on holiday with his family.
This is not the time to play politics. Karyn Decore should know that. My heart goes out to the good people of Jasper, and I wish them well as they recover from their losses.
Emergencies legislation leaves it geographically in the Premier’s prerogative. Just ask the people of Banff.
Decore blamed the PM. “”My question is, where was the federal government Monday night when they knew there was a mandatory evacuation?
“It breaks my heart … and it’s sad to hear that finally, last night when it was too late, they were going to send in the Canadian armed guard.” … CBC.
Red neck politics even during a crisis .. very sad.Disgustingly lathered by Danielle Big Oil Dildo Smith
Superceded by provincial and federal emergency laws. Geographic location dictates provincial jurisdiction .. PM had to wait on Danielle’s request; she made it and he responded immediately.
They were the local authority who invoked the emergency services hierarchy. If you knew your legislation you would know it goes from local to provincial to federal .. all based on requests. But then you’d have to know the law in order to understand it instead of relying on opinion and “I wish it were so” thinking.

#Ableg Alberta is on fire. Alberta had one of the BEST wildfire programs in the world until 2019. Despite MULTIPLE warnings, the @Alberta_UCP cut TENS of MILLIONS from firefighting programs. We’re now seeing the consequences Let’s review 6 MAJOR UCP wildfire cuts!
337.9K Views
1. The UCP Eliminated the 63-man Aerial Rapattack Team This early intervention squad had a 94% success rate containing fires <2 hectares Municipalities BEGGED the UCP to keep them; the UCP chose to save a messily $1.4M instead (ONLY 4% of the UCP War Room budget
2. The UCP killed 30 of Alberta’s 127 Wildfire Lookout Towers The UCP cut 23% of Alberta’s early detection and wildfire monitoring system. Each tower covered 5,000sq km and reports wildfire activity within five mins of the 40-km radius. There was no replacemen
3. The UCP cut the Air Tanker Program by 13% The highly successful program had 2-objectives A. Contain fire spread by 10am the next day (96% success) B. Initiate suppression before the fire exceeds 2 hectares (72% success) The UCP provided 0 contingency plans!
4. The UCP cut rural firefighter training in 2020. Critics say this move directly impacted wildfire resiliency in hundreds of small rural regions across Alberta. This move saved a measly $500k (17% of Smith’s personal staff budget).
- The UCP made significant cuts to the Alberta Wildfire Branch in 2021
The UCP laid off permanent staff at the district level, eliminating:
- Wildfire Rangers
- Info Officers
These roles helped inform regional communities of the risks and threats of wildfires
6. The UCP made 10% more cuts in 2022! This impacted wildfire personnel, resulting in later contractual start dates and earlier end dates Alberta became short staffed in key roles firefighters radio dispatchers lookout observers and Support logistics staff
#Ableg The fact remains since 2019, the UCP cut Alberta’s – Wildfire prevention budget by $30,000,000 (23%) – Emergency Contingency Budget by $312,000,000 (64%) This is DESPITE a multi-billion dollar budget surplus in 2023.
#Ableg fire When the UCP comes knocking on YOUR door – point to the smoke Ask:
1. Was it worth cutting the wildfire budget by 23%?
2. What did you do with the money?
3. Why did fail to refund the RAP program and watch towers despite billions in surplus?
Actions matter.
What other questions should we ask the UCP Candidates about their choices impacting Alberta’s wildfire efforts? How has it impacted you and your family? Add them below!
Remember that despite Danielle’s rhetoric, she has failed to explain ANY of her cuts or failure to fund wildfire programs Easy to know without any UCP dribbling cowardly lying blame Trudeau “explaining.” UCP are stealing from the commons to give to their billionaire friends. Tit for Tat. Time to pay the rich back for putting Smith into power. She would never have gotten her evil lying cross-the-floor back-stabbing ass into power without the help of the extreme rich and the raping evangelicals/TBA.Leadership and integrity matter. https://ponokanews.com/news/alberta-ndp-say-they-would-restore-aerial-wildfire-fighting-teams/
