Hard to ignore the fact that his immediate reaction after the US and Israel bombed Iran was to support them even though it was an illegal war in violation of international law and undertaken in the middle of negotiations.
Also hard to ignore the Canadian government’s response to the illegal sinking of ships in international waters outside Venezuela: they said it was up to the US to determine if it was in compliance with international law, which is of course nonsense.

That is my question as well. If these really are the terms, I would say it is essentially the United States surrendering to Iran. Any benefit to the United States is merely the removal of an action Iran took to force this surrender. There is no evident benefit to the United States at all.
It is not the status quo. It is not even close to the status quo. The United States will give hundreds of billions of dollars to Iran and economic benefits well beyond that. It is completely wrong to say that it merely returns to the status quo.
