Trump and Lee Zedlin (EPA boss) aims to kill New York State’s frac ban and opposition to proposed Constitution Pipeline shipping frac’d gas from Pennsylvania. New Yorkers to Trump & Zeldin: “NO FRACKING WAY!”

Dr. Sandra Steingraber ‪@ssteingraber1.bsky.social‬:

Re-upping this emergency call to action:

New Yorkers, we need you in Binghamton on Monday at 11 am.

We can’t let the White House overturn our state’s fracking ban and build a pipeline whose permits our DEC denied.

Science and law still matter but need to be backed by people power. Bring it.

Once again, all hands on deck, New York! We going to Binghamton Monday 6/8, 11 am to tell the White House that our response to their vile plan is NO.

Take a PTO and show up. Bad ideas are easier to stop when they’re first floated.

I’m speaking at our presser.

Some context:

Trump’s EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is holding a press conference in Binghamton on Monday, June 8 to push for the dangerous Constitution Pipeline and to push for the reversal of New York State’s fracking ban.

You’ll remember Zeldin as the former GOP Congressman from Long Island.

Zeldin is now shilling for the fracking industry as Trump and the gas industry are attempting to circumvent New York’s authority under the Clean Water Act to review and reject the Constitution Pipeline.

They’re doing this despite the fact that science plus overwhelming public opposition a decade ago led New York to deny permits to the Constitution Pipeline proposal and thus killed the project.

We did this by showing that the pipeline would imperil water quality, a decision that was upheld by multiple courts. The Constitution pipeline would cross 250 streams and threaten local economic engines including agriculture, small businesses, and tourism.

The NY Dept Environmental Conservation has filed a lawsuit against Federal Energy Regulatory Agency for attempting to bypass environmental reviews and undercut New York State’s authority over water. A lawsuit has also been filed by Earthjustice, Delaware Riverkeeper, Catskill Mountainkeeper et al.

Using science, protest, and grassroots political power, we also won a statewide ban on fracking in 2014, as declared by executive order of former Gov Cuomo. And we quickly followed that up with a state law against fracking that passed our legislature and was further strengthened in 2024.

But we can no longer trust that science and law alone will uphold correct decisions.

Fellow New Yorkers, it’s time to show up en masse, in peaceful protest, in outrage, in righteousness, and flex the muscle of political power with one legendary message:

NO FRACKING WAY

Bottom line:

Science, common sense, and our care for the environment, climate, and future generations led to our ban on fracking and stoppage of the Constitution Pipeline years ago.

Trump and Zeldin will not reverse this.

New York is not going back!

So change all your plans for Monday, take a PTO, and JOIN ME, other members of Concerned Health Professionals of New York, and our allies for an EMERGENCY PROTEST outside Binghamton City Hall, Monday, 11am.‼️

I’m counting on you!

And goddamn it I don’t wanna do this again either.

Seneca Lake Guardian plans protest over federal environmental policy by staff, June 7, 2026, Finger Lakes1.com

Environmental advocates are planning a protest in Binghamton on Monday in response to a scheduled visit by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, who is expected to discuss the proposed Constitution Pipeline and New York’s longstanding ban on hydraulic fracturing.

The demonstration is scheduled for 11 a.m. outside Binghamton City Hall and is being organized by Seneca Lake Guardian and several environmental groups that oppose both the pipeline project and any effort to revive fracking in New York. Organizers say they expect residents, advocacy organizations and environmental leaders from across the Southern Tier and beyond to participate.

The Constitution Pipeline was originally proposed more than a decade ago to transport natural gas from Pennsylvania into New York. State regulators denied a key water quality permit for the project, citing concerns about impacts to streams and wetlands. Organizers of Monday’s protest argue the pipeline would threaten water resources and local industries, including agriculture and tourism.

Protest organizers also criticized federal efforts to advance the project, alleging that the Trump administration and pipeline supporters are attempting to bypass New York’s authority to review water quality impacts under the Clean Water Act. They pointed to ongoing legal challenges involving state officials and environmental groups over federal actions related to the project.

Among those expected to attend are environmental advocates, including biologist and ecologist Sandra Steingraber, along with representatives from organizations such as Frack Action, Citizen Action, Catskill Mountainkeeper, Food & Water Watch, Seneca Lake Guardian and the Sierra Club. Organizers say the event is intended to demonstrate continued opposition to both fracking and new natural gas pipeline development in New York.
