Just how violent is Canada’s misogynistic legal industry? Ontario Justice of Peace (for 22 years), James Ziegler, charged with forcibly locking up a female Justice of the Peace at Courthouse. I bet he gets a nice bottle of scotch for his trouble.

Paul:

His worship. Why do these people think they should be called your worship or like or councillors and mp’s mpp’s “the honorable” It’s not the 1800’s anymore and these people prove time and time again that the only honor is among thieves

In my view, there are few justices, judges, councillors, federal or provincial politicians in Canada that have earned or deserve being called by archaic, sexist, racist (go look at Take Back Alberta into the Cave), titles. I believe the titles are forced on society, to make us believe there is “justice” and equal rule of law in Canada (which there is not), and that those in the rotten self-regulated legal-judicial industry are above the rest of us serfs, which they are clearly not, given how many of them lie, break the law or piss on it, drive and or work drunk, abuse kids and or women including their own, fiddle and diddle with client trust funds, coerce and or take advantage of clients, etc etc etc. Our politicians, judges and lawyers and their self regulators have proven that time and time again. This case creepily tops the misogynistic legal-judicial cake but I bet dude’s colleagues have already figured out how to blame and shame the victim, and clear the abusive male lawyer so he can go back to being justice of the violence against women.

Kitchener justice of the peace’s forcible confinement case back in court June 6

Former Kitchener councillor Jim Ziegler, 72, was arrested April 22 and charged with forcibly confining a fellow justice of the peace by Catherine Thompson, May 16, 2024

The forcible confinement case of a former Kitchener city councillor will be back in court on June 6.

Justice of the peace Jim Ziegler, 72, was arrested April 22 and charged with forcibly confining a fellow justice of the peace.

Ziegler, a lawyer, was a councillor for the City of Kitchener for 22 years from 1980 to 2002, when he resigned to accept the job as a justice of the peace.

Waterloo Regional Police said the arrest was related to a disturbance in mid-April at the Waterloo Region courthouse on Frederick Street in Kitchener.

Ziegler “did without lawful authority” confine a woman, a court document alleges. It does not provide more details about what allegedly happened.

He has been “unassigned from judicial duties,” the Ontario Court of Justice told The Record.

Justices of the peace are appointed by the province. Their duties include presiding at bail hearings and in criminal remand courts.

Kitchener justice of the peace charged with forcible confinement, The alleged victim is a female justice of the peace by Gordon-Paul, May 10, 2024, Waterloo Region Record

A Kitchener justice of the peace is now “unassigned from judicial duties” after being charged with forcible confinement of another justice of the peace.

Police arrested James Ziegler on April 22. His first court date is May 16.

Ziegler, 72, “did without lawful authority” confine a woman, a court document alleges.

It does not say anything more about what allegedly happened.

“His Worship Ziegler is currently unassigned from judicial duties,” an Ontario Court of Justice spokesperson said in an email to The Record.

Waterloo Regional Police said they responded on April 22 to “a report of an incident” at the Waterloo Region Courthouse on Frederick Street in Kitchener.

“A report of a disturbance which took place inside dated back to mid-April,” police said. “Investigators arrested a 72-year-old male from Woolwich Township with one count of forcible confinement.”

As is often the case, police did not name the man they arrested.

The Record is not naming the female justice of the peace.

Ziegler was ordered to “notify the officer in charge of the Intimate Partner Violence Unit of Waterloo Regional Police Service” if he changes his address, according to a court document.

Ziegler was also ordered to not contact the woman, not go anywhere she frequents and not possess weapons, according to the court document.

Justices of the peace are appointed by the province. Their duties include presiding at bail hearings and in criminal remand courts.
