Dear Mr. Micheal Moroskat, Director, Coal & Mineral Development: I think your letter IL 2025-06 is a trick to make Albertans stop publicly opposing UCP/Gina Rinehart et al’s lies, treachery, secret deals and the coal mines that will turn ugly our Rockies, contaminate drinking water for many and air, homes, businesses, lands, pets, livestock, wildlife, fish and health. “Advanced” projects like Grassy Mountain, and leases granted in 2020 must be killed. Rape by coal and frac, and abuse by AER must stop.

‪Laurie Buckland‬ ‪@laurieinyyc.bsky.social‬:

“Until further notice” the letter says. Probably meant to placate people temporarily.

Curious timing before a town hall on the issue in Calgary tonight.

‪Janet ‪@jansplanet.bsky.social‬:

I think it is reasonable & easy for Albertans to let Micheal Moroskat, Director Coal and Mineral Development know this is a step in the right direction,

but we demand all ‘advanced’ Coal projects be discontinued.

February 10, 2025 INFORMATION LETTER 2025-06 Subject: Restrictions to Crown coal leasing This information letter (IL) replaces IL 2022-09, which set restrictions on Crown coal leasing in the Eastern Slopes. This information letter provides policy guidance related to coal tenure. Restriction on new Crown coal leases Until further notice, Alberta Energy and Minerals will not accept any new coal lease applications in Coal Category 2, 3, and 4 within the Eastern Slopes (see Appendix). Alberta Energy and Minerals has not accepted coal lease applications in Coal Category 1 since the 1976 A Coal Development Policy for Alberta was put in place and this restriction will continue. Applications for leases within active coal mine permit areas will continue to be accepted where the lease is required for the approved mining activity. These applications will only be considered for mines that are operating under an active Permit to Develop a Mine issued by the Alberta Energy Regulator, and where the operator can demonstrate that the lease is required for the active mining operation. Existing coal lease applications There are active coal lease applications that were accepted by Alberta Energy and Minerals prior to May 2020. These applications will be maintained in their current status. Existing coal leases and rental requirements Existing legislation related to coal development remains in place and is unchanged. All existing coal leases that are maintained in good standing will remain in place. All lessees are required to pay the annual rental for coal leases, regardless of any restrictions that may be in place for coal exploration or development activities. For further information, please contact: Micheal Moroskat, Director Coal and Mineral Development Telephone 780-638-4034 Authorized by: Doug Lammie Assistant Deputy Minister Energy Operations

Breaking. The GoA has just released an information letter indicating that it will not be issuing new coal leases. This will not effect AER permitting activities but is an indication that public outrage is having some effect. #ableg #abpoli @cpawssab.bsky.social @albertawilderness.bsky.social

Keep calling! How to contact MLAs in Alberta: www.assembly.ab.ca/members/memb…I call the Minister of Energy & Minerals, your representative, and Premier's Office. Say your name, issue (i.e., new coal leases), your position (against), and what you want them to do (stop immediately).

Two months from now they might cry ‘just kidding!’ and open Rockies north to south. #liars #FiretheUCP

I want Brian Jean to explain the farmers south of Claresholm why he’s overturned federal oversight and is allowing Grassy Mountain to do exploration.

In person. That’s what I want. And to be there. 2 small things.

“Until further notice” the letter says. We can’t let up the pressure. #abpoli

‪Pixie‬ ‪@bepixie.bsky.social‬:

Isn’t this the second time they have said this in recent years?

I guess it’s a start, whether we can trust it is to be seen.

‪Macgyyver‬ ‪@macgyyver.bsky.social‬

It says new, sadly in progress aren’t mentioned.

Simon is absolutely correct here. Real change would be lease cancellation just as @albertandp.ca @rachelnotley.bsky.social called for in their East Slopes Protection Act, s 7, A Bill that never got beyond first reading.

Simon Dyer‬ ‪@simondyer.bsky.social‬:

Signal they are hearing lots of pushback but the real change would be to commit to cancel the hundreds of thousands of hectares of coal leases that were granted in 2020. Closing the barn door too late. Here’s Crescent Falls #ableg

Photo above taken at the celebration of life for Rob Schwartz, kind, generous water protector. Complete with a Mountains not Mines mug!

Most Albertans say “NO!” to greed queen Gina Rinehart’s Grassy Mountain rape & pillage repeat application, so Danielle Smith and UCP change the rules mid game, wrecking MD Ranchlands legal appeal. Thanks to always predictable con voters and AER’s cowardice and unlawfulness, drinking water across the prairies will be permanently ruined (promises by the coal fuckers won’t protect it, that’s a given).

Grassy Mountain was previously rejected in 2021 by the federal government, which cited adverse effects “on surface water quality, including from selenium effluent discharge.”

With its new plans, Northback has promised a more modern operation, including “minimizing environmental impacts and disruptions.”Promises from this piece of shit, name-changing lying company is not worth a piece of toilet paper used by the orange pretendian pres of the usa that Gina gushed over.

How does one meet “half way” an energy regulator that covers up industry’s non-compliance and claims in court it owes Albertans harmed by fracing “no duty of care?”

EUB was ERCB then became ERCB again after it got caught breaking the law and spying on innocent Albertans. After my lawsuit went public, the always corrupt Alberta gov’t changed ERCB to AER. Cartoon from retired Justice Perras’ report on the scandal.
