Israel’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs lashes out at the Mayor of Amsterdam for expressing regret over labeling clashes instigated by Maccabi Tel Aviv hooligans as a “pogrom” and a “Jew hunt.” The Minister, doubling down, dismissed the Mayor’s regret as “utterly unacceptable” and declared, “There is no other word for this than a pogrom.”
@gidonsaar:
The statement made by the Mayor of Amsterdam is utterly unacceptable. The failure that occurred on that night must not be compounded by a further grave failure: a cover-up.
Hundreds of Israeli fans who came to watch a football match were pursued and attacked, targeted by a mob asking for their passports to check if they were citizens of the Jewish state. There is no other word for this than a pogrom.
The application of the term “pogrom” was not an Israeli invention. It was used by Dutch politicians who recognized the severity and antisemitic nature of the incident, including @geertwilderspvv (PVV), @lientje1967 (BBB), and @chris_stoffer (SGP).
We will never again accept the persecution of Jews on the soil of Europe or anywhere else!
Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema expresses regret for using the word “pogrom” at the internationally covered press conference the day after the clashes in the city, adding, “We were completely overtaken by Israel.”
Speaking to the current affairs show Nieuwsuur on Sunday night, Halsema said: “In hindsight, I should not have used the word ‘pogrom.’.. We were completely overtaken by Israel. At 3 a.m., Prime Minister Netanyahu suddenly gave a lecture about what had happened in Amsterdam, while we were still gathering the facts.”
“The Israeli government spoke of a ‘Palestinian pogrom on the streets of Amsterdam,’ and in The Hague, the words were used to discriminate against Moroccan Amsterdammers, Muslims. That is not what I meant or what I wanted.”
She also acknowledged that she should have highlighted the violence caused by Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters before and after the Europa League game in Amsterdam.
Dimitri Lascaris@dimitrilascaris Nov 18, 2024:
Amsterdam’s mayor has publicly expressed regret for describing clashes provoked by genocidal Israeli hooligans as ‘pogroms’.
Canadian political ‘leaders’ @JustinTrudeau, @PierrePoilievre and @ElizabethMay jumped on that same bandwagon.
Do they have the integrity to publicly express regret for their false claims, or will they continue to behave like yapping Zionist chihuahuas?

Chirvan Edross@cedross:
She specifically used the word pogrom, as did all the other Western politicians. This means that the Israeli lobby had given out their talking points for this issue. She should be pressed about using prepared statements from foreign regimes.
@Whiterabbit2587:
Elizabeth knows people want her to resign because of her support for Zionism. She’s taking the Greens knowhere
@db_maggi:
Elizabeth May has done nothing to advance the Green Party or the Green movement in Canada. Her Zionism is just one in a long list of failures on her part
