Redford cleared of wrongdoing in handling of Alberta’s tobacco lawsuit by The Calgary Herald, December 4, 2013
Premier Alison Redford has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the selection of the law firm to litigate Alberta’s $10 billion law suit against Big Tobacco. Outgoing ethics Commissioner Neil Wilkinson rules in his long-awaited 33-page report released Wednesday that the Redford’s selection of the law firm of her ex-husband was “an entirely proper exercise of her office as minister of Justice.” “As there were no breaches of the Conflicts of Interest Act found, no sanction is warranted,” said Wilkinson. The investigation was launched in January after the province selected a consortium called Tobacco Recovery Lawyers in June 2011.
