Alberta government to spend $9.2 million on mental health support for flood victims, but no support for victims of water, land and air pollution caused by hydraulic fracturing for oil and gas

Province to spend $9.2 million on mental health support for flood victims, no support for victims of water, land and air pollution from hydraulic fracturing for oil and gas by Jason van Rassel, October 25, 2013, Calgary Herald
The amount, which is part of a $50 million package previously announced by the province, will be split among more than 30 agencies in southern Alberta. “We will repair the physical damage. That’s already begun — but we can’t forget about the mental and emotional toll of the floods,” Premier Alison Redford said. Redford and Health Minister Fred Horne said the province is committed to long-term funding for mental health programs, because people who lost their homes or were dislocated during the floods will be dealing with the effects for years to come. “This is not about offering people a time-limited service,” Horne said.
