3.3M earthquake near Longview. Alberta Geological Survey “said it’s not aware of any damage ever being recorded in Alberta from an earthquake.” Liar Liar, Pants on Fire. Shame on you AGS.
A small earthquake was recorded by seismic equipment in the foothills yesterday.
The earthquake was described as magnitude 3.3 and was 10 kilometres deep, according to Earthquakes Canada, part of Natural Resources Canada.
The quake was 10 kilometres northeast of Eden Valley, near the village of Longview in Foothills County, and occurred in the early afternoon on March 6.
People usually don’t feel earthquakes that are under 3.5 on the scale, the agency said.
End Reality Check (there are lots more small frac/injection quakes that people felt in other areas, with some causing damages).
Quakes in the 3.5 to 5.4 range are often felt, but rarely cause damage.
The Alberta Geological Survey said there are few earthquakes in Alberta, but said there has been an increase since 2011, mainly due to hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and wasterwater disposal related to oil and gas production and exploration.
Information about the cause of yesterday’s quake and whether it was natural or industry-related is not available.Any frac’ing around Longview or was this quake induced by Musreau Lake frac quakes? This quake is not (yet) listed on AER’s dashboard, and not listed at NRC, that I could see.
The provincial agency said it’s not aware of any damage ever being recorded in Alberta from an earthquake.
ChuckyDuck:
Must have been climate change caused or maybe fracking?
