Is that an abandoned, leaking, toxic polluting well you’re petting Harper? Near how many family homes, schools, hospitals, community centres etc?

Certainly the naming of Stephan Harper to the Economy Recovery Panel was a disappointing surprise to many Albertan’s? Canada went through a 10 year period of a Conservative Recession under Harper—who managed to bring Canada back to yearly deficits that measured $160 billion while getting little to nothing of importance done??
The idle wells mentioned by Brad Tomlinson are not in a crisis state as many would have us believe—indeed many of these well have been in their present condition for over 30 years!!
Using Canadian’s tax dollars to support foreign owned oil giants will not be popular even in Alberta!! The Oil Industry remains the richest industry in Canada and certainly have allowed these wells to pile up over many years with a purpose in mind ! Albertans have warned many Albertan governments about the danger we faced by allowing these rich industry members to stock pile these location year after year when money certainly could not be used as an excuse?
The requirement to finance idle wells to lower unemployment in Alberta disappeared with the massive march of Covid –19 !! Our federal government must measure very closely where it’s funds are used in these desperate times!! Certainly supporting an industry mostly owned by foreigners and foreign governments would be a very foolish move by a Canadian Government!! Industry must be pushed much harder to undertake promises made to Alberta Public—not all of these industry members are short of funds and capital—however our federal treasury must not be raided by the Alberta Premier —the Trans Mountain Pipeline is more than he deserves while sitting on $18 billion in our Heritage Trust Plan!!
We must not bankrupt Canada to Keep Foreign owned industry’s alive and well!!

Re: Battle-tested harper joins panel; 12-member council chaired by Mintz to look at the issues affecting province’s economy
Now is not the time for ideologically driven solutions by our provincial government. This appears to be what Premier Kenney plans based on his appointees to the Economic Recovery Panel. The panel is stacked, with one exception, with right-wing, neo-liberal ideologues.
It will no doubt recommend large bailout packages and tax holidays for oil companies and corporations. Similar strategies have not worked since Kenney introduced them last summer. Those strategies resulted in shareholder dividends and stock buybacks, but no jobs.
I suggest we copy the public works projects President Roosevelt did in the Great Depression. Those public works created infrastructure that allowed the U.S. to become an economic powerhouse. An Alberta New Green Deal could put thousands of unemployed oil workers back to work reclaiming the 350,000 abandoned oil wells in this province. No it won’t. Companies promise endless jobs and clean up if we give them yet another $5 billion and another $20 billion and another $40 billion, and just another $50 billion, and on and on forever to continue with their intended plan to never clean up. They’ve already been given nearly a $billion in interest free loans by Notley and Kenney (with us taxpayers paying the interest), and $billions more in tax/royalty cuts, never mind all the freebies, gifts and subsidies. How many sites did they clean up? None. How much money did they pay back? Nadda. How many jobs did they create? Zip. Instead, many jobs were taken away in exchange for all that money from us, killed by the industry’s greed-induced automation.
Companies could be required to invest taxpayer money in renewable energy which employs many more people per dollar than fossil fuels and does not harm the environment.
I implore Kenney to appoint a more balanced, less partisan group to the panel and consider all solutions — not just those that are in keeping with his ideology.
G20, under Herr Harper’s reign. Thank everything good, that Canadians punted him out on his tarshit-enabling ass.
