Carney appointed Malcolm Lavoie as judge in Alberta. He supports Tom Flanagan’s position re converting Reserves to private property a la the American Dawes Act.

@204queenb0574.bsky.social:
Carney works for Harper. Harper hates the Charter. And Carney isn’t exactly standing up for our rights under that Charter. He’s eroding rights by legislation and putting the onus on voters to pay the costs to sue them for unconstitutional laws.
Did you know they put all the mandatory minimums, even those struck down by the courts, back on the books by simply putting it in a bill summary? The only place the term “mandatory minimum” appears in Bill C-16 is in the summary. The way they pass laws is INSANE.

@orlaghokelly.bsky.social:
Carney just appointed Danielle Smith’s top justice official, who oversaw the 4x use of the notwithstanding and anti trans laws.
The discrimination of kids with disabilities. The americanization of election laws etc etc etc.
Malcolm has the right credentials (from extreme privilege ). No real experience in law (or empathy). The question is – having been the architect of the attack on all of our rights, institutions and environmental laws- can he have an open mind? The UCP picked him, through an unprecedented process

I’d like to see a list of who was on the committee that put those names forward to the PM to choose from. This reeks of a political appointment and not an actual competence one.
@sashafury.myatproto.social:
Most people celebrate Carney’s sense of decorum as a signifier of respectable politics, despite that his politics are uncouth and belligerently corrupt.
@lalegault.bsky.social:
Mark Carney just appointed his hero, Malcom Lavoie to the bench.
@saeedwkhan.bsky.social:
Hey, Liberal voters in Canada.
Is this what you voted for when you voted for Carney? I definitely didn’t.
Carney lied to us all
and hasn’t stopped lying to us and the world, since he lied his way into power. Perhaps he tells Trump the truth, during their regular phone calls he keeps secret from Canadians
. He’s doing to Canada what Harper failed to do. He’s Harper 2.0.
To appoint this person as a JUDGE of all things tells you who Carney is.
STOP CARNEY.
@204queenb0574.bsky.social:
So Carney’s government broke the law. As did Smith’s.
Carney goes around laws like he’s untouchable. This is a politicisation of our legal system with the rot beginning and spreading from AB. I pray that someone in the Canadian Bar Association can file a complaint and prevent this from happening. I’ve seen a delayed appointment in MB for that reason.

@orlaghokelly.bsky.social:
He barely qualifies. Hes 12/13 years at the bar. I know because I was his character reference…..
@204queenb0574.bsky.social:
I worked in the legal system here in Manitoba and I can tell you that no one is interested in making judicial appointments political. What Smith and her party are doing is undermining our institutions and it sounds like Carney is fully complicit in it happening.
@eamcur25.bsky.social:
Agree: THIS IS POLITICAL. Harper was held in check by the courts , so Carney is stacking them. Tell me he ISNT doing this on purpose.
Fuck!

@trueoak.bsky.social:
Albertans already hold the majority in the nomination committee. What Dani doesn’t like is they are appointed by various Alberta law groups not her government.
Current members representing the public include a criminologist from Edmonton & a labour lawyer from Calgary.
Seems like a lot of Albertans

@captncanada.bsky.social:
Exactly – she can’t stand the idea of people who actually know how the legal system works and who would be a good judge getting in the way of appointing someone who she thinks will support her ideologies.
@204queenb0574.bsky.social:
Sounds a lot like Project 2025, doesn’t it?

@christoaivalis.bsky.social:
When you think about it, there’s some overlap between Project 2025 and Carney’s Bill C-39
MAGA Mark is at it again
@aster-verite.bsky.social:
Yes, this is very true.
Centralization of executive power? ✅
Curtailing labour rights? ✅
Deregulation of energy? ✅
Elimination of environmental reviews? ✅
Congratulations LPC supporters you basically enacted project 2025

@204queenb0574.bsky.social:
I’ve seen the parallels. It’s exactly why he invited Kevin Roberts to speak to his cabinet. The visit was called off but how do we know he didn’t just join via Zoom to keep his participation quiet? I mean, I think we know just by how Carney’s governing but can’t be for sure, for sure.
