A small contingent of an oil-rich province in Canada that desperately wants to join the United States met with President Donald Trump’s administration.
The Financial Times reported on Thursday that Trump aides met with the Alberta Prosperity Project, which is a group of far-right separatists who want to leave Canada. Since last April, Trump’s State Department officials have met with the group at least three times in Washington, the report said.
“They are seeking another meeting next month with state and Treasury officials to ask for a $500 billion credit facility to help bankroll the province if an independence referendum — yet to be called — is passed,” said the report.
According to the group’s attorney, Jeff Rath, who was at the meetings, “The US is extremely enthusiastic about a free and independent Alberta.”
He went on to brag that he has a better relationship with the Trump administration than Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney who hammered Trump in a speech at the World Economic Forum.

The State Department downplayed the multiple meetings however, saying, “The department regularly meets with civil society types. As is typical in routine meetings such as these, no commitments were made.”
The White House echoed the statement, adding that there was no commitment of financial support.
Neither Treasury secretary Scott Bessent nor anyone at the Treasury Department knew anything about a “credit facility proposal,” said a person familiar when talking to FT. They said they have no intention of engaging.
Canadian conservatives, however, view the group as people who are only looking for attention.

However, Ipsos polling shows that only 3 in 10 residents in Alberta and Quebec would vote to secede from Canada. Still, the separatists are gathering signatures for a petition to deliver to the legislature.
FT added that it’s part of deteriorating diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Canada.

I agree with Andrew Hale, a senior policy fellow at Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., who does not think it’s appropriate for U.S. officials to meet with separatists from any Canadian province.
This action alone by the Alberta Prosperity Project is reason enough to end the referendum. The members of the APP are unelected private citizens colluding with foreign countries to effect great change in this country and usurp an elected government. Frankly, these actions are treasonous and I would not oppose them being tried for their actions.
Remember the Memorandum of Understanding during the Freedom Convoy, it too was misguided and should never have been written, let alone distributed. However, while it was a horrible setback for the Convoy because it gave those who opposed the protest ammunition to discredit it, it pales in comparison to this action by the APP.
Canada should, at the very least, pull their Ambassador from any foreign country, as well as, expelling any country’s Ambassador, that speaks to these people and seriously consider criminal charges against members of the APP.

Modry says an Alberta constitution will be “loosely based off the US Constitution” with “a little bit of the Swiss model” with more referenda. A new oversight branch would ensure that “the executive, Legislative Assembly, the Senate, and judiciary absolutely do not veer from the Constitution.”
Modry adds that in an independent Alberta, every government department will be audited continuously, “and that audit report has to be released to the public every three months.” The room cheers in response.
Modry says they’ve met with the US administration three times, and if the referendum passes but negotiations fail, Premier Smith could “declare sovereignty unilaterally,” which other countries would acknowledge.
… In response to a question about messaging, Modry says, from the meetings with US administration, “they are solidly in favor of Alberta sovereignty and solidly not in favor of Alberta becoming the 51st state.”

The next question is, “who funds this movement?” Modry says the max amount of money that can be used for this campaign is $570,000, which goes towards venues, and Modry doesn’t know of anyone getting paid apart from perhaps accounting fees or professionals brought in for certain things.
US admin “suggested that it would be a good idea to see if the US would provide a line of credit that could conceivably be drawn on during that transition process from a province to a country,” Modry says. He adds the need for that is “very unlikely.”

Alberta hate-crimes watchdog StopHateAB has received a complaint arising from the Alberta Prosperity Project’s Jan. 7 town hall in Didsbury.
The APP has been holding town halls across the province to rally support and gather signatures for a petition that could force a referendum on Alberta independence. If the APP gets 177,000 verified signatures, it can trigger a referendum, though there are outstanding court challenges from Indigenous groups about the validity of the petition, as they claim it ignores treaty rights.
The complainant, whose identity is protected by StopHateAB’s protocols, said Alberta Prosperity Project CEO Mitch Sylvestre made a number of inflammatory comments about immigrants during the town hall at the Didsbury Memorial Complex, located 233 kilometers south of Edmonton and about 80 kilometers north of downtown Calgary.
The complainant flagged comments Sylvestre made about white Albertans being replaced by immigrants. The complaint also suggested Sylvestre said Christianity will soon be a crime in Canada, and that white Albertans shouldn’t have to apologize for themselves.
StopHateAB president Sunpreet Singh Johal said the organization has not opened a formal investigation into the Didsbury town hall, but will keep an eye on the Alberta Prosperity Project.
“We are closely monitoring any further reports related to Alberta Prosperity Project town halls that may come in, and we have taken the necessary steps to bring this information to the attention of our partners,” he said.
Postmedia staff have watched video footage of the Jan. 7 meeting and both Sylvestre and lawyer Jeffrey Rath touched on the topics of race, immigration and what it would all mean in an independent Alberta.
In the meeting, about 28 minutes into his speech, Sylvestre claimed former prime minister Justin Trudeau made the following statement: “The very concept of a nation founded by European settlers is offensive to me. Old stock white Canadians are an unpleasant relic and, quite frankly, replaceable. And we will replace them.”
A number of Internet watchdog sites have identified this as a meme with a fake quote. There is no verifiable, documented proof Trudeau said this.
‘This used to be what Alberta was’
But Sylvestre followed up the claim by saying APP shouldn’t apologize for being a white movement.Yes, you fucking need to. Your hateful douche fuckery and words hurt many people. Life is tough enough without shits like you and Mr. Rath spewing and farming hate.

Sylvestre went on to say Albertans welcome immigrants, and that they too are getting a raw deal out of Confederation. But he followed that up by saying “the replacement theory is real”It is not fucking real!~ The world is much more than just ignorant hate-filled old white Albertans nurturing grudges!— and that means the federal government’s immigration policy is designed to replace white Canadians with those of other races.
“They’re going to replace the people of Alberta,” said Sylvestre.Oh FFS! No one is replacing anybody, but Carny and Trump are inhumanely working to deport non whites, because they’re fucking Nazis.
He also claimed it will soon be a hate crime in Canada to possess a Bible or Quran.That’ll never happen. Religious freedom is protected under the Charter, which old white male Albertans hate. Idiots. Later in the meeting, Sylvestre said an independent Alberta will be one with a very different makeup.
“Don’t forget that there’s a whole bunch of people here that are going to leave,” he said, to loud applause from the audience.
“If we have control over immigration, we can control who comes here.”
Sylvestre said in the two to three years following statehood, their vision of an independent Alberta is a place where citizenship rights are granted “only to people who are born here.”Gonna cause one hell of a lot of inbreeding and escalating stupidity from already a very stupid people

And he added Alberta could use its border as leverage. If B.C. doesn’t play ball, he said, trucks could face two-week waits to clear the border and make their way to Saskatchewan and points east.
As for religious freedom in an independent Alberta, Rath said “we don’t want anyone else imposing their religion on us.” And he said the new countryRoaring laughter! It comes as Johal confirmed results of StopHateAB investigations into a September 2025 Alberta Next panel in Medicine Hat and separatist movements in Peace County would soon be released. Online reports could be made public in the next two weeks.
“Our anti-hate provincial outreach project also has done hate-related community assessments in Medicine Hat,” Johal said. “Also, in our community assessment in Peace Country, specific residents shared that they were experiencing increased levels of hate, Indigenous in particular, due to Alberta’s separatist movement.”
