Look up: Military drones to be tested over downtown Ottawa, The Canadian Forces will be testing new technologies to track mini-drones in an urban setting by David Pugliese, Sept 29, 2025, Ottawa Citizen

Defence officials will be using downtown Ottawa to test new technologies to track mini-drones in an urban setting.
The tests will run Nov. 24 to Nov. 28 and will involve Canadian Forces personnel, defence science experts, the RCMP and officials from the U.S. government.

The testing will be done in the downtown core although the Department of National Defence has not provided details on specific locations. “There will be four types of test locations: Ground level, Mid-level balcony on a high-rise building, High-level balcony on a high-rise building, and Rooftop,” DND spokesperson Kened Sadiku noted in an email.
Small drones, particularly those known as first person view (FPV) aerial vehicles have transformed the modern battlefield. The systems, which can cost less than $500, are currently being widely used in the Russia-Ukraine war as well as in fighting in Gaza, Haiti, Lebanon and Syria.
The DND initiative is part of what is known as the Counter UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) Sandbox tests. Tests
on Palestinian kid killing tech used by genocidal Israel
have already been held at an open range at Canadian Forces Base Suffield in Alberta.
Sixteen companies have signed up to demonstrate their detection technology in downtown Ottawa. The area to be defended is a square of city blocks, with office towers of varying sizes. DND said the intent of the tests will be to identify and track drones before they reach the perimeter of a specific area, as well as once they have breached the inside of that perimeter.

- Construction has started on new Canadian military drones but they won’t be fully ready until 2033
Sadiku said the public will not be directly affected during these tests.
Of course the public will be harmed by this, their privacy will be violated and drones are terribly invasive and are nails on the black board noisy. I’ve had assholes trespass their drones over my house and land (illegal), trying to intimidate and or annoy me. Even when quiet, drones are aggressive noise makers.![]()

Demonstrations will be limited to detection only and systems to destroy or defeat the drones won’t be used.
“One of the many desired solutions from this Sandbox is identifying systems that can be safely used near bystanders, as would occur when protecting a public gathering, or using the system in a busy downtown urban setting.” Sadiku said.
Or, used against Pro peace, Pro Palestinian protesters?![]()
There are various detection means, including by radar, by sound and by monitoring the radio frequency signal that controls the drones.
But DND says potential adversaries are also adapting UAS designs to evade current tracking capabilities — they are reducing the UAS visibility, minimizing radio-frequency emissions, operating at faster speeds and increasing the autonomy of the systems.
The ways to defeat such aircraft include jamming and cyber attack, deploying nets and using small arms such as shotguns or anti-aircraft guns.
Each company participating in the Ottawa tests will be provided with up to $20,000 in funding. The DND is also offering $1.75 million in monetary prizes for promising technologies.
The Canadian Forces has already purchased counter-drone systems for its troops serving on the NATO mission in Latvia. That is part of an investment worth more than $200 million for that technology as well as air defence systems, according to the federal government.
In addition, the Canadian military is purchasing a larger drone fleet from the U.S. The federal government announced on Dec. 19, 2023, that Canada would buy 11 of the General Atomics MQ-9B Reapers for $2.5 billion.
This needs to be cancelled given Nazi USA’s threats against us, but, Carney is more than eagerly serving America and handing them our money, so it won’t happen.![]()
The new drones, being built in the U.S. will be stationed at 14 Wing Greenwood, N.S., and 19 Wing Comox, B.C. The drones were originally expected to be delivered in 2025, but that will be delayed until 2028 as modifications are made to the aircraft to deal with Arctic conditions.
Uplands will also be the site for a new $65-million military facility to control that drone fleet. The Ottawa installation, to be ready by 2028, will be around 6,000 square metres in size. It will be home to almost 200 military personnel whose job will be to operate and control the drones flying from the bases in British Columbia and Nova Scotia, as well as Arctic locations.

So we’re letting the US government participate in war games in downtown Ottawa? 51st state it is!
Carlo C:
I don’t know, that thing is black, with a pistol grip and a scope, looks pretty lethal to me.
Scott Highlander:
Most countries would test their drones over vast, barren wastelands.
I’m glad that Canada won’t follow suit.
After all, Ottawa’s not “vast!”

Just going step by step down the American path, normalizing things all along the way.
@marychristi.bsky.social:
Idk what’s going on in your wonderful country but as an American, is this CA effort toward a military build up because of your neighbor to the south- U.S. ? Defense against the U.S.? That I could understand 100%. Many of us appaled &upset that we are now living in these dangerous condition here.
@tryangregory.bsky.social:
No, Carney thinks China is the biggest threat and wants more integration with the US on defence.
Our biggest threat is the fascist USA, not space missiles from China. Unless that is taken seriously, this is all just a transfer of wealth from the public (at the expense of services and public sector jobs) to defence contractors.
@esunaproxy.bsky.social:
Prioritizing military spending when NATO is largely the biggest international aggressor since it’s inception is pretty awesome.
Love that we will be able to better procure weapons that we can use against foreign nations to get more oil for USA billionaires.

Won’t be long before Carney invites Vought to speak to his cabinet behind closed doors.

This guy? Who literally said he wants to put civil servants “in trauma?”
@niankhsekhmet.bsky.social:
There’s nothing reluctant about it. He outlined his plans in Project 2025. This guy is one of the most dangerous people in the cabinet.
@mavisr.bsky.social:
Of course he enjoys it. They are all sadists.
