@mrtmdc.bsky.social:
I wouldn’t buy a US product if you paid me! Not booze (if you can call it that) not steak or chicken. (I prefer something natural instead of hormone pumped stuff)
@ctrev3than.bsky.social:
the world needs to stop dealing with them, there is no deal with the US, nothing they do or say is trustworthy
@3hoods.itch.io:
Shelf or no shelf, we’re not buying it.
@iankozak.bsky.social:
Well they can fuck right off. If they want us to consider putting american alcohol on the shelves, ALL of the tariffs MUST be removed and never considered again going forward. Also our dairy supply management system is non-negotiable.
@gatwick2024.bsky.social:
They do not get it. For me anyway, it is not about tariffs – they come/go, go up/go down. It’s the 51st state crap & calling our PM governor. Put it back as a bargaining chip but expect 90% CDNs will still not buy it.
@jennydjld.bsky.social:
… Jack Daniel’s & Kentucky McConnell bourbon can kiss our ass.
@dave-bailey.bsky.social:
And let’s see if we can tear up this trade agreement thingy that says that we can’t call our corn whiskey ‘bourbon.’ That’ll put a hitch in their git-along.
@tenchiohki.bsky.social:
Last I checked, standing up for oneself doesn’t include capitulating to bullies.
@eroticlover.bsky.social:
Stand up for yourself & for humanity.
BOYCOT as much American products as possible!
As long as the USA doesn’t act as human beings, they don’t deserve to be treated as humans, so ignore & boycot them in every possible way!
@retirementready.bsky.social:
They can put whatever they like back on the shelf – doesn’t mean we have to buy it.
I certainly won’t.
I will, however, think less of any politician who caves.
@futbolsound.bsky.social:
I can’t think of any reason that a Canadian would make the argument to put US product back on the shelf other than they are paid to do it.
Regardless, tell them to pound sand.
@jshoreboston.bsky.social:
Is this a paid-for “advertorial” by the U.S. alcohol industry? Is it a U.S. or Canadian pub? Does the publication accept advertorials, like the Washington Examiner?
In Canada, advertorials must be clearly distinguishable from independent editorial content.
For those “new to the conversation…”

@derdeh.bsky.social:
WTF!! Nope, not happening. How is putting US booze back on the shelves helping Canada? I mean give your F-cking head a shake!! It is still 💪🇨🇦💪
@dragonsegg.bsky.social:
We cannot bend on these stands against fascism and hate. I’m pissed off every time i hear someone went south, even if it means missing comicon or whatever event. If we don’t hold firm, they’ll pull us down with them.
@amnos-storm.bsky.social:
The article says the ban “unintentionally resembles Trumpian petulance because it was arbitrarily imposed by a tiny number of leaders”. No, it was widely supported by Canadians and wasn’t the arbitrary decision of a few.
The article says “Would you question a friend who travelled to a U.S. city to support their national team? Of course not.”
Yes I would. Supporting a sports team is not a necessity, and is not the same as visiting family, and doesnt have to involve traveling to and spending money in the US.
Finally the article quoted a US tourism exec on the line that is the most offensive to Canadians boycotting the US, as @guardtheleaf.bsky.social has explained: “we know now is not the right time to ask you to come, but when you are ready to come back down, we’re excited to welcome you back.”
“When you are ready” implies that the responsibility is on Canada to change its mind, with no responsibility on the US to change anything they have done that triggered the situation in the first place. It also assumes the damage can be undone.
This relates to the naive thinking that if Trump is gone then everything will go back to normal. No it wont. Millions of MAGA are still there. American exceptionalism is still there.
@jalo5813.bsky.social:
Their sad, and I suspect paid, PR efforts tell us you’re winning and they’re frightened by what you’re doing to their sales. Keep it up!
@tonawandablue.bsky.social:
I’m in Buffalo. I can practically see Canada from my house.
When I go to visit, I don’t need to see shit that I can get at home.
Well, aside from Tm Horton’s …
@bapum.bsky.social:
No f…ing way.
@notnarrow.bsky.social:
How would that help?
I dont blame Canada at all for snubbing the us.
@charlieangus104.bsky.social:
The quisling press it out in full force. They want us to stop being troublesome Canadians, to listen to our political betters and be obedient. Fuck that. This latest whine comes from a former liberal speechwriter.

Want Canada to stand up for itself? Put U.S. booze back on the shelves by David McLaughlin, Contributor, Aug. 13, 2026, Toronto Star
David McLaughlin is a Canadian speechwriter who has worked in Liberal governments and written for public- and private-sector leaders across the country.
In football, there is a tendency that coaches try to remove in players. It’s called hero ball. It happens when someone doesn’t fully trust teammates to do their part.
So they throw when a receiver is clearly not open. They overpursue and are out of position to defend. Sometimes, good things can happen. But in the long run, it can be more hurtful than helpful.
In the early days of the Trump-fuelled hostility towards Canada, there was a natural inclination for premiers to take their own initiative in removing American products from collectively owned alcohol stores.
However, it was not a team effort — just a few players made the call.
because the ones that didn’t worship the orange painted rapist pedophile and are on Team Trump like you David and Con Man Carney.![]()
Make no mistake, that immediate action felt good to most of us. It sent a message to Americans that we won’t be pushed around. We’ll push back. We’ll make their industries hurt if they hurt ours. Most of us said “right on” — me included.
So, here in Ontario, for 18 months, the Kentucky bourbon has stayed banned. California vino is finito.
But given that we’re in for a long haul in this trade disruption, a strategy can be reconsidered. And we should ask if a ban is the best way to send a message.
Because we can also communicate not through a ban but through collective choice: what we buy or don’t buy.
I boycott everything American and always will from now on, and I will never again go there, not even to fly in their airspace![]()
That’s why we should put American products back on LCBO shelves — so I can walk right by them.
oooo, yuk, manipulative little propagandist aren’t you David?![]()
We have another case study to compare with the government-imposed booze ban: the grassroots tourism boycott.
Using mobile phone data, researchers at the University of Toronto’s School of Cities found a year-over-year drop in Canadian visits to the U.S of almost 42 per cent.
what the fuck is wrong with the 58 per cent?![]()
True, sales of American products at the LCBO are down 100 per cent. But individual choice was taken away rather than coming from a voice that is millions strong.
What the fuck is wrong with you? Seems Canadians slamming Carney for his booze betrayal is getting to you. Many Canadians have back bone, unlike Herr Carney, and will stand up to the American kid raping and pedo protecting Nazis, no matter who wags his arrogant fingers at us ![]()
Yes, some of those California wines are really good. But they will have to wait. And if you need to get one, no judgment. Just as people make the choice for different reasons to sometimes visit the U.S.
Those people are fucking stupid, there is no rule of law in USA under criminal Trump, and, they are traitors.![]()
In fact, the occasional exception is what makes a consumer action more compelling. We can choose when to show resistance and when to show fellowship. This goes beyond trade. It’s about our shared humanity. As we saw during the World Cup, we’ll make exceptions for things such as love and celebration. Would you question a friend who travelled to a U.S. city to support their national team? Of course not.
OMG, yes, of course I would. In fact, I’d never talk to them again. This is serious fucking shit, Trump’s threats and attacks against other countries, including Canada. People can watch local sports, they don’t need to pollute and fly to a Nazi country to watch a game grossly corrupted by Trump and the FIFA asshole who created a fake peace prize for him. I boycott Nazi fucking FIFA shit. Every fucking game. How dare you speak for me~![]()
The scenes of people enjoying hospitality in U.S. cities was a reminder of the human connections that will endure if people keep talking to each other.
FFS, what a fucking shit you are.![]()
In Canada’s tourism “no thank you,” U.S. flights are still available. American tourist destinations are open for business. And those American communities are speaking directly to Canadians.
Yes, indeed they are, telling us NOT to visit, because it’s much too dangerous with Trump and his criminal goons in charge![]()
Dan Kelleher, president of the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism in Lake Placid, said recently to “dear friends in Canada” that “we know now is not the right time to ask you to come, but when you are ready to come back down, we’re excited to welcome you back.”
Ya, WHEN WE ARE READY, but we are FUCKING not ready, and many will never be ready.![]()
We want Canadian leaders and trade negotiators to be tough. But if we’re going to get to the other side of whatever this is, words such as Kelleher’s are needed, too.
WHEN WE’RE READY, not a second before, and certainly never while mass murderer thief Trump is in power![]()
The total ban on American-made booze is also out of character with the type of trading nation, and democracy, we purport to be. In fact, it unintentionally resembles Trumpian petulance because it was arbitrarily imposed by a tiny number of leaders.
JFC, you write like a five-year-old. Trying to shame us into doing what you want us to do. Go Fuck your anal self Mr. McLaughlin. Just because we have many corrupt Premiers in Canada at this time, like Doug Ford, Scott Moe, Danielle Smith, etc., does not mean Canadians with integrity and humanity show lower themselves to the soulless ways of too many of our leaders. PS. I do not consider Smith or Moe or Ford leaders, they are con artists and law violators serving self and the rich![]()
To be clear, I don’t criticize the original reaction to pull the products. I respect the spot our politicians were in when Americans
It wasn’t Americans, it was Trump and his greedy thugs who believe all the world’s oil is theirs for the bombing and stealing. I have American friends, they have not turned on me, and I have not turned on them
suddenly turned on us. But the tourism example, “we won’t buy,” says more than the alcohol story, “you can’t have.”
Trump is mass murdering innocent people, people fishing in boats to feed their families, kids in schools, teachers, parents, surgeons, artists, poets, first responders. We will do as we see needs doing.![]()
Put back the U.S. products. Let us speak with our wallets so Americans and Canadians can someday build back mutual trust — one visit, one bottle of good cheer at a time.
Fuck you David. Take your shitty manipulations and bullshit and try it out on Pee Pee and Trump.![]()

The Liberals sold us to the Yanks with NAFTA. You can drive KMs in Mississauga and never see a Canadian business. This is nothing new. These folks love America and hoped it would help rid 🇨🇦 of libraries, streetcars, public health care and the CPP.
@peterdavison70.bsky.social:
You might need to brush up on your Canadian history but it was PC Brian Mulroney who sold us out.
@bryan8149.bsky.social:
Didn’t Conservative PM Harper sell off the rest of it?
@peterdavison70.bsky.social:
The one and the same.

@listentoshaft.bsky.social:
If this is Carney using the media to pave the way for his new deal with Trump then we are in trouble.
@tridentyyz.bsky.social:
Putting booze back on the shelves is bending the knee. How can you stand up when you have bent your knee? Dear writer, if they’re complaining about something, then whatever you’re doing is working. This is the essence of “elbows up.”
@zadett.bsky.social:
Stick to your guns and take no prisoners. That’s the only way to treat a bully.
@over74.bsky.social:
They will have to remove that Canadian Wine Bottle from my cold dead hands first! USA go bottle yourselves!
@davenlsn.bsky.social:
The media wants Canada to cave. NO
Booze will go back on the shelves when the Premiers with the Federal negotiators get something worthwhile.
They just said the latest offer was not good enough.
When it does go back on the shelves, we won’t buy it anyway.
BoycottUSA
BuyCanadian
@oldmanteeps.bsky.social:
Canadian media is owned almost entirely by American conservatives
@bryan8149.bsky.social:
Exactly the problem.
They are trying to influence the narrative back to favor US products.
@alwayslate.bsky.social:
Keep it off the shelves.
At this point, i wouldn’t even drink their booze if it was being given away for free.
@youllbederezzed.bsky.social:
Support your local businesses.
Boycott all corporations supporting Trump for life. Do not go back.
Find other options.
@alwayslate.bsky.social:
Solid advice.
It’s really easy for me to do this with booze, as I live in Winnipeg. We have fantastic craft breweries (little brown jug, barn hammer, torque, good neighbour, oxus, transcanada, one great city, dastardly villain, & more!!) and some really good small distilleries (patent 5, capital K)
@jeymien.bsky.social:
We’ve even got a winery started up. Shrugging Doctor Beverage company. Their fruit wines are good, haven’t tried their grape wines yet though. Also a few cideries and meaderies which is pretty neat.
@alwayslate.bsky.social:
Love this!
If that’s your preferred beverage, check out Low Life Barrel House. I think they’re in Osborne.
They have interesting looking wines, ciders, and beer, as well as non-alc. options, too.
@jeymien.bsky.social:
I’vw heard of them too! Yeah, I’m more if a cider or wine person :)
@bajaarizona.bsky.social:
Money is the only thing these capitalist cretins in the US understand. Keep the boycotts strong, don’t buy American products. In the end you help us out as well by not caving. Thank you Canadian friends.
@mollylyons.bsky.social:
Charlie, this American wants Canada to be troublesome. I get it. The current administration SUCKS. The worse he does, the easier it will be to get rid of the entire MAGA movement. So, don’t let us off the hook.
(Unless we can become the 11th province or 4th territory)
@jc1415.bsky.social:
No concessions for illegal tariffs
@catherinesnook.bsky.social:
Such conveniently selective memories they have! Imagine forgetting how all this started and who it was that has never stopped levying more and more tariffs.
@hey-nunya-business.bsky.social:
Stand up for yourselves by buying our stuff!
Sucks to suck that the US liquor sector is panicking. Maybe they should have figured out that beavers are industrious little fuckers before they tried bludgeoning one by voting for the most moronic village idiot they could come up with as their leader.
@thesurplusjayerich.bsky.social:
I was wondering to myself if Canada’s boycott of American goods the most successful boycott in history. Sure, there’s the booze and other products, but the travel must really hurt. Like, MAGA boycotts Coors, it costs tens of million. Canada boycots America (for years), it’s tens of billions.
@clnz.bsky.social:
Nope, nope, nope.
@haidawarcanoe.bsky.social:
No!!! ABB = Always Be Boycotting the Maga bastards. No Pasaran! All US-made goods are infected. Buy local. Make a difference. Keep US booze off the shelves. And the lettuce, beans, fruit… Summer’s here, and the time is right for… boycotting US goods!
@chadchartrand.bsky.social:
Trump and his goons FAFO’d. They can eat crow.
@baroda.bsky.social:
Will still boycott made in USA
@greytdog.bsky.social:
Oh FFS. the person who wrote that “opinion” should’ve kept it to himself – worthless utterly worthless. Batshit crazy opinion – and I’m not Canadian! I wish Americans were like our Northern neighbors….standing up against bullying

Who in their right mind wants to enable and or support this gross public money stealing and wasting baloney, never mind his sadism, racism, misogyny, environment-hating super stupidity?![]()

@prchovanec.bsky.social:
I’m sure Xi Jinping – whose new aircraft carriers #3 and #4 all have EMALS – is laughing himself silly.
@wilywolf108.bsky.social:
People really need to start telling this MFer “NO”.
Probably a waste of time and money either way as drones have basically made aircraft carriers obsolete. Otherwise they’d be sitting in the middle of the Strait guarding tankers, right?
