Dr. Jacquelyn Gill, Paleoecologist U Maine: “What is the purpose of a university if we cannot use our knowledge to serve others? What good are these hands, if not to repair the world? What use is my voice, if it is expected to keep silent? Why do I have a heart, if I am meant to ignore its breaking?”

Dr. Jacquelyn Gill@JacquelynGill Paleoecologist @UMaine April 24, 2024:

College students are being arrested for demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, where mass graves have been found. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is deciding whether it’s okay to perform an abortion to save a life in an emergency room. My to-do list seems utterly unhinged in comparison.

What is the purpose of a university if we cannot use our knowledge to serve others? What good are these hands, if not to repair the world? What use is my voice, if it is expected to keep silent? Why do I have a heart, if I am meant to ignore its breaking?

“Counterterrorism” NYPD forces are now arriving to Columbia campus

Assal Rad@AssalRad:

You don’t arm and fund a genocide because you believe in human rights. You don’t spend billions of dollars on war because you believe in peace. You don’t ignore international law and veto UN resolutions because you believe in rules.

Gaza has shattered every illusion.

@LukewSavage:

A whole lot of people who’ve spent years calling the younger generation “snowflakes” now apparently want armed guys in riot gear to protect them from teenagers sitting peacefully on the ground

humstein2023@humstein2017:

the same police who brutalized protestors at univ texas today didnt lift a finger to save the kids in uvalde. who needs the police

Alonso Gurmendi@Alonso_GD:

States can’t really support authoritarian governments that violate human rights without becoming authoritarian and violating human rights themselves. It’s always been this way. The difference is this time, students have forced the authoritarianism to rise to the surface

Andrew Mc Cormack@phpfyi:

I have a feeling these protests are just getting started. As if the US couldn’t look any worse… here we are. And they have the nerve to lecture the world on freedom and human rights. It’s all lies…

Ginger M Edwin @GingerMEdwin:

The last six and a half months have changed my entire worldview.

Most of the time, I am in shock about that.

This is wow:

Kashif Chaudhry@KashifMD:

Watch/share this @CNN report on Passover at the Gaza solidarity encampment.

Anthony Farda@anthonypfarda:

If you exercise your constitutional rights in America, you are a terrorist…..

In Canada too:

2009: Steve Harper’s anti-terrorist squad (34 RCMP and police offers, paid for by taxpayers, but they only serve private thuggery for oil and gas companies making multi billions in profits in Alberta) invade my private property trying to terrify me silent, after the defendants in my lawsuit were served their legal papers, including AER for violating my charter rights – judging me a criminal without a trial, because I dared present the “regulator” with carefully documented evidence of illegal aquifer frac’er Encana/Ovintiv breaking the law and spoke publicly about it.

I believe Harper sent these thugs to set up a “legal” path for AER’s outside counsel, Glenn Solomon, to later lie and call me a terrorist, without any evidence or Affidavit, in their 2012 court filing. A judge ruled there was “absolutely no evidence”of me being a terrorist. I’ve received not one apology from any of the bullies.

Snaps above from Ernst presenting on her case in Dublin, Republic of Ireland:

“If the contamination in my water is natural, would they send the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police)?
