Why conceal water well data from Albertans? by Alex McCuaig, September 29, 2011, Medicine Hat News
“Our ground water — that’s public,” said Chris Gerritsen, president of the Alberta Water Well Drilling Association (AWWDA). “We own it collectively.” Gerritsen used the example of someone who may have a well contamination problem as a situation where any privacy concerns should be outweighed by public safety. “If that contamination moves over to your well, you should have the right to know what’s going on. To me, that makes sense,” he said. “Do people not remember what happened in Walkerton, (Ont.)? You can’t keep this a secret. It has to be public information because we are talking about public safety.” [Emphasis added]
