Raymond Bachand, Philippe Couillard and Pierre Moreau held the final of five largely cordial candidates debates here on Saturday, with Bachand noting all three took the unanimous position that Quebec should develop its oil and gas resources, even if that means fracking. … All three agreed shale gas and shale oil projects must first meet the test of social acceptability, following public consultations. … Moreau noted it is not surprising people in Quebec’s Gaspé region objected to an oil project “300 metres from someone’s home.” Bachand said shale promoters tried to “bulldoze” their projects. “Maybe we should have ordered studies earlier,” he said.
