Since the earth tremors, Cuadrilla’s exploration wells on the Bowland shale have been shut down pending an investigation by the Department of Energy and Climate Change. During the hiatus, the company has been doing its best to regain the confidence of local citizens. … Cuadrilla now knows what triggered the quakes. “There was a stress fault near the well bore which accepted a lot of [fracking] fluid. This lubricated the fault and the fault slipped,” Mr. Clarke said.
