“You could shine a flashlight into our well and it looked like it was at a rolling boil, all the methane that was coming out of it,” she said. Initial tests by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection found gas in the well to be 82 percent methane before the well was vented, Manning said. The operator of the two wells near her property, WPX Energy, has provided drinking water to Manning and two other Franklin Township residents since the incident. “I don’t think other people should have this happen to them because they don’t know what’s going on. We want to inform the people in the next county or the next state that this can happen to them. It doesn’t happen to everybody, but it happened to us.”
