Canada cozying up to fascism under false pretence of co-operation by Erica Ifill, July 22, 2026, The Hill Times
It’s easy to see the Canadian government engaging in deference to U.S. terrorism strategies as normal, but it’s only a matter of time before there’s a crack down on left-wing political speech, thought, and organizing.
Canada’s recent participation in a meeting hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio aimed at left-wing extremism is the latest example of liberals laying down with fascists to legislate the punishment of left-wing political discord, writes Erica Ifill. White House photograph by Molly Riley
OTTAWA—There is a phrase in politics that could describe the overall tenor of the Carney government: scratch a liberal and an authoritarian bleeds. We are not standing up to American fascism, we are joining them.
On July 16, The Toronto Star reported on a seemingly innocuous, run-of-the-mill counterterrorism meeting hosted by United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio: “The Trump administration is urging the Carney government and other allies to treat left-wing extremism as a top national security threat, advancing a major shift in counterterrorism strategy that is raising concerns about civil liberties and the potential impact on Canada.” The article goes onto say that Rubio, and the Prince of Darkness, White House adviser Stephen Miller, “laid out that priority Thursday in front of a senior Canadian embassy official and representatives from more than 60 other countries, including the entire G7.” Although Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand was invited, a senior public servant from Global Affairs was sent in her stead.
The department tried to downplay its attendance citing its long history of co-operation with the U.S., but there is everything to see here. What we are talking about is possible co-ordination amongst G7 governments to criminalize political views, free speech, and freedom of assembly. These are the same governments that lamented the loss of free speech when marginalized people were fighting for equal rights, which shows that they only hate freedom of speech when something is said that they don’t like.
Following the meeting, the White House announced on its website: “Today, the Trump Administration convened senior officials from governments around the world to launch an unprecedented global offensive against the transnational threat of Radical Left terrorism.”
I have trouble naming an incident of left-wing “terrorism” where multiple people died. I do know that much of the danger attributed to the left wing is false. As I recall, the greatest threats to democracy in the U.S. and Canada were the Jan. 6, 2021, invasion and the 2022 Ottawa Convoy, respectively. Those are right-wing movements.

Rubio specifically mentioned Antifa, which has been the boogeyman to distract us from right-wing violence and growing authoritarianism since U.S. President Donald Trump first took office in 2016. In the journal, Perspectives on Terrorism, historian Nigel Copsey and sociologist Samuel Merrill stated that through their research, “calls have been made by conservative right-wing politicians to designate Antifa a ‘domestic terrorist organization’ in the United States … And yet, the evidence for such an equation has been mostly limited to a handful of instances that usually bare the hallmarks of political exaggeration or are alternatively attributable to individuals loosely associated with the Antifa movement.”
In other words, the greatest sin Antifa—short for anti-fascist—has made is being opposed to growing fascist authoritarianism; they are not even a group or an organization. On JSTOR, which is one of the world’s greatest sources of scholarly research, their JSTOR Daily post on this subject laid out the creative criminalization of left-wing participants: “Antifa groups in the U.S. today are autonomous, ad hoc groups that exist for the narrow purpose of confronting white supremacists and other fascists.”
So now we know the danger attributed to left-wing movements is exaggerated: “They define fascist—a notoriously difficult concept to pin down—as innately involving the use of violence and threats of violence, from street attacks on people of colour to genocide. In contrast, Antifa members attempt to stick to tactics that harmonize with their anti-authoritarian and humanist values.”
This is how easy it is to criminalize anyone who is against a growing authoritarian government. Given Carney’s authoritarian fantasies of leadership and the stripping away of institutions meant to protect the public, it is also easy to see the Canadian government engaging in deference to U.S. terrorism strategies, like they’ve always done. It is only a matter of time before this government, along with the opposition, crack down on left-wing political speech, thought, and organizing. In February, Global News reported: “A Conservative MP wants to identify the number of federal public servants or members of the Canadian Armed Forces who sympathize with the left-wing Antifa movement.” That MP’s name is Garnett Genuis, who apparently is already starting the witch hunt on rooting out dissent.
This is not about Antifa. This is about political dissent, and throughout history, liberals have laid with fascists to legislate the punishment of left-wing political discord. It is not clear that that is what the Carney government will end up doing, but it is making moves towards such proclivities.
With the pushing of artificial intelligence down our throats, the lack of accountability mechanisms for law enforcement, the expansion of surveillance in the form of Bill C-22, and Carney’s consolidation of power by systemically removing parliamentary oversight (I’m especially thinking of the privacy bill), this government is proving it is not against the fascism left-wing groups aim to prevent.

Marco Rubio’s “ANTIFA as terrorism” summit is about criminalizing dissent. It will allow the state to target citizens opposed to Washington’s fascist agenda. Canada’s decision to send delegates makes us complicit. We are ANTIFA. We must hold our ground.

Stephen Miller, A key player in Trump’s inner circle by Ann Telnaes, Jul 19, 2026, Open Window
I know Trump’s speech last Thursday got the most attention but watch this hate-filled diatribe by his deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller. Do listen all the way to the end because it’s fascinating (in a frightening way) how he gets more agitated when attacking “liberals” appearances and their personal motivations. And note that he was appearing at a summit Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted. Remember that when the news media portray Rubio as a sane option during the run-up to the 2028 presidential election

‘This Is A Fatal Cancer To Civilization’: Stephen Miller Rebukes ‘Left-Wing Terrorism’ 13:56 Min by Forbes Breaking News, July 18, 2026
OMG, Terrorist Stephen Miller is unhinged. How many innocent lives will Nazi USA destroy before Trump and his mass murdering pedo partners, including Miller, are in prison where they belong? How many murdered? How many tossed into concentration camps?
It sounds to me that Miller points to himself, Trump, Rubio, Hegseth, Todd Blanche, Bessent, Ludnick, Jared Kushner et al as the terrorists working to destroy USA and global civilization in this clip. Illegal bombing of Venezuela and kidnapping of her leader was by Nazi USA; illegal bombing and intentional mass murder of innocent kids and families in Iran was/is by USA and it’s partner in crime, Israel; financing terrorist genocidal Israel is mostly by genocidal USA. PS Miller looks more unnatural than any “leftist” or any citizen protesting ICE’s crimes and murders, Israel’s mass murders, USA’s crimes and murders. Fuck, I don’t covet any family with kids anywhere in the world – those kids will suffer (or area already suffering) horrifically with our species’ gross over population and ever escalating pollution and consequences of global warming, notably extreme heat and severe food and water shortages. Some are already suffering horridly.
Mr. Miller, Trump and the rest of their “christian” white supremacist mass murdering of innocent people and kids Pedo KKKlan are in my view fucking criminals and need to be in prison.![]()

Canada attends Trump summit targeting left-wing extremism, Canada is one of more than 60 countries attending the high-level counterterrorism meeting. by Mark Ramsey, July 16, 2026, Toronto Star
OTTAWA — The Carney government has sent a senior official from Canada’s embassy in Washington, to a Trump administration summit trying to rally allies behind a new U.S. campaign targeting left-wing groups it claims are a top terrorism threat.
Canada is one of more than 60 countries attending the high-level counterterrorism meeting, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand’s office confirmed Thursday, though it’s not being represented by Ottawa’s top diplomat.
The meeting comes as U.S. President Donald Trump shifts the United States’ counterterrorism focus to zero in on left-wing violence, raising concerns about politicization from experts who say there is no evidence the threat is at the level being claimed.
Railing against anti-capitalists, anti-imperialists, anarchists and communists in his opening remarks, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the western world’s post 9/11 counterterrorism strategies needed to shift to focus more on left-wing violence.
of course Nazis gonna point away from their criminal genocidal evil asses, and point to innocents.![]()
“For far too long, however, our counterterrorism doctrine has had a blind spot, a blind spot when it comes to extremist violence from the political left. Even today, the very idea that far-left terrorism could be a serious threat is treated as a right-wing fever dream, or worse, as a dangerous fascist conspiracy,” Rubio told attendees at the meeting he called “unprecedented.”
“This is a distinctive and unique evil. It has always been driven by a hatred, above all else, a hatred for civilization itself. It is a revolt of the worst against the best, a revolt of the weak and the cowardly against the strong and the good. It is perpetrated by those who cannot build, who cannot create, who cannot achieve great things, and take their revenge upon the world for their own inadequacy by seeking to destroy those who can. This is what radical leftism is.”
sounds more like Rubio is talking about himself, Trump, Miller, Hegseth, ICE, Epstein Class et al.![]()
The Star has requested an explanation for Canada’s attendance. All G7 countries are represented at the meeting, according to a list of attendees shared by a State Department spokesperson. Canadian officials had previously declined to confirm their attendance or answer questions about the U.S. shift in counterterrorism strategy.
Carney government won’t say if Canada will attend Trump anti-Antifa summit
Meanwhile, neither the Canadian Security Intelligence Service nor the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have commented on the meeting or offered their perspective on the U.S.’ claims about rising left-wing terrorism.
CSIS did not outline the issue as a top threat in its latest annual report.
More to come.

We watched Trump’s dangerous and deranged speech so you don’t have to. Here are the moments you need to know about:
— He openly laid groundwork to challenge the midterms. He claimed our elections were “compromised,” clearly setting up the justification to tamper with results before a single vote is counted.
— He said he’ll “correct vulnerabilities” in our elections. Translation: he told you exactly what he plans to interfere with.
— He contradicted himself on China in real time. He first claimed China was “working to influence” and “undermining confidence” in him, then said he was doing a “great job” with them back when he made the claim. He couldn’t keep his own conspiracy straight.
— He claimed China rigged the 2020 election, this time by getting journalists to write bad stories about him, because China supposedly wanted Biden to win since Trump was “wise to them.”
— He said they found “burn bags” from the Obama Administration full of supposedly incriminating material, without ever saying what was actually in them.
— He said he needs “urgent measures” to stop our elections from being “hacked,” citing Maduro’s rigged machines in Venezuela in 2020 as his “evidence.”
— He attacked networks for not airing him live, accusing them of being “part of the conspiracy to rig elections” and suggesting they should lose their broadcast licenses.
— He announced he wants to seize voter data from states he’s deemed “vulnerable” ahead of the midterms.
This was a sitting president telegraphing, step by step, how he plans to undermine the 2026 midterms with egregious lies and conspiracy theories.
