@redsnoopy69:
Donald Trump is going to make many people pensionless…
@canadiancynic.bsky.social:
The tanking of the stock market is not an accident; it is by design so that a select group of billionaires can buy cheap and wait for the market to recover, thus making a killing. All this tariff nonsense is nothing but blatant manipulation of the stock market for the benefit of the uber-wealthy. …
I have said this numerous times — the goal of conservatism is not just to do damage, it is to do irreparable damage that cannot be undone, even under a new administration. WRT farmers, the goal is to drive them into bankruptcy and foreclosure so that billionaires can grab that farmland for cheap.
Once that farmland is seized by billionaire oligarchs, there is no legal way to ever get it back.
Widespread foreclosure is not an unintended consequence of that administration; it is the goal.
@mehdirhasan.bsky.social:
Republicans went nuts and accused Biden of tyranny when he tried to cancel student debt.
Right now, their guy just imposed the biggest tax rise on Americans in modern history by fiat, unilaterally, with no congressional or judicial approval.
@nigelb.bsky.social:
I am struck by what I will call the Prime Minister’s “stacatto” delivery style. There are few of the ums and ahs of his predecessor. IMO it is effective. It conveys both thoughtfulness and authority. Nothing new here; this is a presentation style honed as a central banker. #abpoli #canpoli
By contrast, when I listen to Smith or Poilievre the words that come to mind are words like bombastic, combative, argumentative and of course hubris.And lots of blame others for their fuckups (most blamed is Trudeau) and much stupidity, copying Trump, to charm their extreme Evangelical and or MAGA base
@cmandin.bsky.social:
So, so much hubris.
@hmmvryintrstng.bsky.social:
james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country
“…for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country’s exports to us.”

@JamesSurowiecki:
Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn’t actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country’s exports to us.
So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
@markusoff.bsky.social:
CNN: 10% baseline tariffs on all goods from all countries
EXCEPT “those compliant with the USMCA free trade agreement”
So Canada may have dodged a very large bullet on many of its exports
@femsocphd.bsky.social:
Any leader with sanity would not start a trade war with you. I’m so glad you’re leading on all fronts, PM Carney.
Wanna bet vile liar quisling Wanna-be-Governor of 51st State backstabber Danielle Smith claims she saved Canada, when all she did was intentionally harm us, serving her King Orange? PS Smith had nothing to do with the USMCA agreement, other than non stop lying and blaming Trudeau for her fuck ups, to please her nasty masters
@clnz.bsky.social:
We need to give PM Carney an unqualified majority mandate to deal with the U.S. & Trump so he can “fight, protect, and build” a stronger, more resilient, free, & prosperous Canada! Please get out the vote—our voice matters now more than ever!
@anyolejoe.bsky.social:
Canada has always been the US’s greatest friend and staunchest ally. When we need you – you step up. Always. You have fought wars at our side, and MOST of US will not forget. Elbows up, Mr. Carney. Hit him hard enough so he will never, ever take a swing at our friends again. #HandsOff #elbowsUp
@frieslandvrouw.bsky.social:
Carney for the win! Trump’s tariff announcement today is good for Canada & Mexico. It was likely Carney’s call last Friday, or trillions lost on the stock market. Trump has punted, or kicked the can down the road for Canada. United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement continues to cover our trade
@redsnoopy69:
Every Pro-Trump politician in Canada should resign immediately.
Millions of Canadian’s are having their livelihoods threatened by the MAGA bullshit these Canadian politicians endorsed…

@leftaloneinusa.bsky.social:
CaptainFailboat Donny Trump’s half-wit #TariffsWar — from an #IMPOTUS45 who KILLED “Supply Chains, [American] economy & 1 million+ #COVID victims — is IMPOSING RECORD $6 TRILLION TAX on [American] consumers!!
Nevermind listening to 16 Nobel economists & CEOs, Trump is BENT re-creating a Hoover-GOP “Great Depression!!All the quicker for Trump to destroy USA for Putin!
@samfr.bsky.social:
The standout madness in the general madness are the enormous tariffs on South East Asia which, if these stick, is going to magnify China’s sphere of influence. Geopolitical lunacy.

@charlesland123:
LOL! $600B from the US taxpayers.
@SantaMonicaMM:
Stupid MAGA dipshits cheer this without understanding that “generating $600B+/yr” means increasing their cost of living by $600B+/yr
@KobeissiLetter:
This is one of the largest waves of tariffs ever imposed in US history with goals of generating $600B+/yr.
We will be breaking down this announcement in a detailed thread shortly.

BREAKING: President Trump is currently holding a poster with reciprocal tariff rates set to be imposed on 20+ countries.
Stock market futures just crashed -2% in 45 seconds.
@Microinteracti1:
So let’s get this straight: Putin breaks over 20 agreements, invades a sovereign nation, targets civilians, and still gets the benefit of the doubt from Trump and “Team Peace.”
Meanwhile, America’s closest allies—Europe and Canada, who’ve stood by the U.S. for over 80 years—get slapped with tariffs for doing absolutely nothing wrong.
Putin gets patience, praise, and second chances.
Allies get punished, mocked, and called freeloaders.
Still wondering why Europe is turning toward China?
Americans and MAGAts still don’t want to accept that Trump and Musk work for Putin?
@The_M_Thomas:
Trump is stood on a podium whining like a baby that the EU won’t allow US poultry to be imported.
Literally nothing to do with tariffs. That’s all about food standards. Europe doesn’t chlorinate chicken.
@RaeYesac
Yes. Australia doesn’t import US beef for biosecurity reasons – we don’t have mad cow disease. Therefore he is banning our (very safe) beef.
@The_M_Thomas:
Exactly! It’s insanity.In my view, Trump had lost his mind before Putin helped put him into power in 2016; the convicted felon rapist didn’t get any of it back since, not even when Putin and Musk helped put him back into power in 2024
@JBobMcBoatFace:
Further isolating us from the rest of the world.

At least I never thought he was intentionally destroying our democracy.
@TRyanGregory:
We don’t need friends and allies (except Russia and Israel).
