Liberal MP-elect says he knew beating Poilievre ‘was possible’

The Liberals’ Bruce Fanjoy got more than 50 per cent of the vote in the Ottawa-area riding of Carleton — in which he was up against none other than Poilievre.
Poilievre had held the riding for more than 20 years, winning seven consecutive elections.
Speaking to Power & Politics host David Cochrane, Fanjoy said he worked in the riding for two years, “knocked on thousands of doors, [and] had thousands and thousands of conversations” with constituents there.
“And I got a good sense as to the mood of the riding,” Fanjoy said. “In that time, Pierre was largely absent … and people felt taken for granted.” …
@deonandan:
Guess I’m a Fanjoy fanboy.
@pressprogress:
The journalist in Poilievre’s viral “apple” video feels “a substantial degree of satisfaction” that he lost.
“Canadians saw through his three-word grade-school rhyming, and his toxicity and bullying nature”

Journalist in Poilievre’s Viral ‘Apple’ Video Says Election Results Bring Him ‘Satisfaction’, Don Urquhart believes Canadians ‘dodged a bullet’ by Eric Wickham, Ontario Reporter, April 30, 2025, Press Progress
Don Urquhart likes these apples.
“It would be fair to say I feel a substantial degree of satisfaction that Pierre Poilievre lost, not just the election but his own seat,” the journalist caught in the firing line of the Conservative leader’s most viral moment said in a statement to PressProgress.
Urquhart, editor of the Times Chronicle in B.C.’s South Okanagan, said the election results were evidence that Canadians “saw through” the Conservative leader’s “three-word grade-school rhyming, and his toxicity and bullying nature.”
“Poilievre repeatedly failed to demonstrate his ability to deal with the serious and complicated issues at hand.” (See the full statement at bottom.)
On October 14, 2023, Poilievre released a video to YouTube titled “How do you like them apples?” in which the prime ministerial hopeful ate an apple while responding dismissively to Urquhart’s questions about his political approach.
“In terms of your sort of strategy, currently, you’re obviously taking the populist pathway…” Urquhart began.
“What does that mean?” Poilievre shot back while chewing on an apple.
The following two minutes of the clip continued in the same fashion, with Poilievre continuing to enjoy an apple while repeatedly pushing back.
When Urquhart asked Poilievre about taking a “page out of Donald Trump’s book,” the leader responded: “What are you talking about? What page? What page? Can you give me a page? Give me the page.”
The video was viewed on Poilievre’s YouTube channel 1.4 million times, on the Conservatives’ official channel another 595,000 times and shared by right-wing media across the world.
Joe Rogan played the clip on his podcast, praising Poilievre for the way he responded to the reporter asking him “stupid questions.”
“Everything about ‘the Left’ is despicable, everything,” Dennis Prager said on his own podcast after sharing the video. “That reporter was despicable.”
As a result of the clip’s popularity, Urquhart was the subject of scrutiny and insults from the right and far right for simply showing up and asking questions Poilievre didn’t like.
“Somebody help that journo, you’re out of your depth, pal,” said a Sky News Australia commentator while laughing about the video in a clip viewed on their YouTube channel 710,000 times.
In his statement, Urquhart made special mention of Poilievre’s treatment of the press, before and during the election.
“His utter disrespect for the media and by extension Canadians themselves — whether it be apple munching, refusing to allow reporters to travel with him on the campaign trail, or limiting access and vetting of questions with no follow-ups — took a direct page from Trump’s playbook and raised many questions about his ability to represent Canadians,” said Urquhart. “As for the viral ‘apple clip’ from fall 2023, it was an undeniably clear reflection of his character.”
“This surely won’t be the end of Poilievre or the masterminds of his political persona, but at least for now, Canada has dodged a bullet.”

@TWIV_ear:
Fanjoy certainly worked hard for the vote. Congratulations also to all the hard working campaign volunteers.
@cougsta.bsky.social:
According to some political strategist on CTV News Channel, Saint Poilievre “sacrificed” his seat to gain other ridings.
What a load of horse shit.
The Alberta Republican Party just stupidly knocked on my door.
@craecan.bsky.social:
Well that’s not at all how this works.
@nickjmcc.bsky.social:
Poilievre being like “we denied the Liberals and NDP enough seats to have a majority” then the seat count changes right then to allow for just that is chef’s kiss
@marbrodi.bsky.social:
Also him forgetting what he was saying and ending his concession speech with “let’s bring it home!” Hahahaha.
@slingsnarrows.bsky.social:
Their post-mortems are always the same, “We didn’t get the message out.” They don’t realize how so many people think Conservatives are just assholes.
@mynamesnotgordy.bsky.social:
Now that we’ve whittled through the CPC’s existing bench I figure potential candidates for CPC leadership include Tamara Lich, Theo Fluery, Jordan Peterson and one of those inflatable blowy men you see at used car lots.

@mynamesnotgordy.bsky.social:
All this time I thought Pierre was saying “The lost Liberal decade” but as it turns out he was saying “The losing to Liberals for a decade.”
@chuckoff.bsky.social:
Harper did irreparable damage to the CPC. Scheer, The Tool, and Poilievre just kept on delivering.
Two years for that career welfare queen to prepare for an election, and he still managed to f/k it up completely.
@cecilnagy.bsky.social:
When you put all 4 photos together like that you realize how bankrupt the CPC really is. The main flaw in the CPC right from the beginning is that it is Heir Harper’s party and always will be.
@carneyforpm.bsky.social:
That picture says it all. Four empty heads, Sheer has that proverbial smirk on his face, always, it never leaves. He can be mad as hell and still he smirks. They are all mad hatters.
@sailonsilvergirl.bsky.social:
Why do they all have that creepy 1000yard stare.
@lesjfrie.bsky.social:
Singh and Carney end all campaign events to show respect for the victims in Vancouver mass murder last night.
Poilievre chose not to pause his campaign. He not only continued his tour, he took his entourage to a Filipino Church. He makes my skin crawl.Pee Pee’s cruelty never ceases to astound me, like that of the orange convicted felon rapist and Harper
@chiffonelle29.bsky.social:
Spot on. It really is creepy
@sailonsilvergirl.bsky.social:
They all look like they could convincingly play the part of a serial killer…
@annieevans.bsky.social:
The biggest mistake was combining parties. The different ideologies [are] messaging is toxic.
@gabriellasmom2018.bsky.social:
I’ve seen Harper called the Crypt Keeper a couple of times. Now that’s all I see when his picture shows up. He looks like such a ghoul….the outside matches the inside in this case.I agree. Harper’s always looked dead to me. His cold dead eyes filled with hate, like a cruel con man shell unable to hide the evil on the inside, creep me out. Perhaps Harper’s lipsticked face and soul are rotted more than usual because of his spy tech corp helping genocidal Israel kill too many babies.

@that-magnus.bsky.social:
I had forgotten about old rosey cheeks, loser #2.
@janetgreaves45.bsky.social:
I wonder what evil plans Harper and his IDU buddies are hatching now.
@missgiven.bsky.social:
How to line his pockets most effectively.
@mynamesnotgordy.bsky.social:
Does anyone happen to know if Pierre wins tonight when all the additional freedom starts? Does the freedom get phased in? Is there a soft launch prior to actual full-scale rollout? Is the freedom delivered regionally or provincially? Will there be information sessions explaining all the freedom?
… If the CPC loses the election and Pierre gets yeeted as leader does he still get to keep the T-shirt cannons and all the good makeup brushes?
@waternymph.bsky.social:
And his chest enhancers? And what about all the Fuck Trudeau swag and convoy donut coupons?
jtgyk.bsky.social:
We’ll steal his lifts and the box he has to stand on.
@mynamesnotgordy.bsky.social:
I sense Pierre probably hasn’t crawled into bed and tucked himself in under his Preston Manning sleep set just yet.
I really did think that whole new Don Johnson look was going to work out for Pierre.
As a show of good sportsmanship, If Pierre gets yeeted as leader, on moving day we should all show our respect and admiration for him by driving in circles around Stornoway and honking our horns.
@williamthecat.bsky.social:
I think they should immediately change the locks on Stornoway. And maybe count the silverware.
@asurlyduff.bsky.social:
Like MAGA chuds, his base is immune to shame and irony
@itssamg.bsky.social
It’s funny that all the conservatives who thought Carney shouldn’t be interim PM because he wasn’t elected are okay with Poilievre staying on as the CPC leader even though he literally just LOST an election
@3xthetom.bsky.social:
Watching Poilievre say that he denied the Liberals and NDP a coalition while the Liberal numbers tick up to allow a Liberal NDP majority is kind of hilarious. I mean we’ll see where we are tomorrow, but it’s just another glorious fuck you to this joke of a man
@easytoslip.bsky.social:
My worry is that despite the pro-Canada words in his speech, he’s going to do everything he can to hinder the government at a time when we need it to work the most.In my view of PeePee, he hates Canada, can’t wait to be an orange Nazi of the USA and governor of the 51 state. His job is to destroy us, that’s why I believe his non stop smug mug. He doesn’t need to win, his job is to exploit us for his personal gain, and destroy us to benefit billionaires and fascists.
@free2explore.bsky.social:
Exactly my worry. He’s so childish that he will do everything to undermine Mark Carney.
@uppertown.bsky.social:
and pissing on the War Memorial.
and shutting down businesses.
and shitting on people’s lawns.
and partying half naked on meth and shooting fireworks at buildings.
THAT’S WHAT PP stands for.
@booknerdy.bsky.social:
Urinating on Terry Fox bronze. That was a moment.
@tlt55.bsky.social:
Reminder…they weren’t “dancing” on the War Memorial — they were pissing on it.
@stanleygilroy.bsky.social:
He and his MAGAt party of Canada had a hand in organizing the Failed Seditious Insurrection that was the CONVOY of Trailer Trash.
Page 1 of their Seditious MOU demanded the Removal of a Legally elected Government of Canada! Blocking the Borders & occupying Ottawa made it a Insurrection.
@FranSreborn:
The Standing Orders for the House of Commons does say that the Leader of the Opposition must be a sitting Member of Parliament. PP does not meet this legal criteria.
@deonandan:
Seems there’s a squatter in Stornoway.
@Volksmarcher:
I believe he has to quit Stornoway in 30 days. Without a seat in Parliament, Poilievre will not be able to return to the House of Commons when it resumes.
@tominwindsor:
….the country is divided. Men are not OK. There is a ‘tear it all down rage’ out in the country represented by the CPC. Hard to see them contributing positively in a minority situation.
@jedpc:
….a rather depressing number of people voted for Pollievres utterly poisonous ideology that is wrapped up as “conservatism”. 🙁
@atRachelGilmore:
One thing that I was thought was revealing about the divisions within Canada:
When Carney acknowledged Poilievre’s hard work on his campaign in his victory speed, the crowd of Liberals cheered.
When Poilievre mentioned Carney in his concession speech, there was loud booing.
@Mikeggibbs;
Calling a by election for a leader is something that only happens for leaders who were not MPs and just elected party leader.
Never before has a leader sought a by-election after the voters rejected them & tossed them from their own seat.
Pierre is way out of line to demand it.
@ozriclentils:
Not at all surprising if he does this. He’s a scumbag loser through and through, who could not win anything fair and square.
He’s lost god knows how many no-confidence votes, general election, his own riding. If the CONs want to keep him they’re setting up for a 5th loss.
@ToddHeintz:
He needs to step down. Canada doesn’t want him.
@Creek_Pete:
So all the people that complained that Carney was “unelected” for a few weeks, are going to be totally fine with Poilievre staying on even though he LOST HIS SEAT, right?
@ellieatmoore.bsky.social:
He’s a slumlord. He still has an income. Unfortunately.
@greenglassworm.bsky.social:
Watching him do the Desantis smile makes me want to vomit. On his face.
@rhondastew.bsky.social:
he’s the human version of vomit
It’s like they told him “you need to smile more” and he said “what’s that” and they said “ok just show your teeth more”
@free2explore.bsky.social:
It’s like the teleprompter comes on queueing ‘smile now’.
@maeveblue.bsky.social:
They must have told him to hold Anna’s hand more as well……
@rhondastew.bsky.social
Ugh I despise her just as much as I despise him
@davidmoscrop.com:
Poilievre isn’t going gently…he’s sticking around and not changing his tone or approach.He doesn’t need to win, winning is not his job. His job at the IDU is to destroy our democracy and our country, as the IDU and Harper are working at doing globally. I expect Pee Pee’s getting paid heaps of Dark Money to do it, same as the Fucker Truckers were.
@memoirmoose.bsky.social:
That’s what F47 did after the [American] 2020 election. He doubled down & continued influencing policy b/c Congress and SCOTUS had already been infiltrated, & The Heritage Fdn + dark $ continued to back him, prime his base for 2024, & block Biden at every turn. Canada needs to be wary despite its big win.
@alexanderhay.bsky.social:
You mean a fascist lunatic refuses to accept his defeat in a dignified, graceful manner? That’s never happened before!?!
@organizemobilize.bsky.social:
Another Trump
@kirkmurphy.bsky.social:
Pollievre: human equivalent of treatment-resistant gonorrhea.
@amirattaran.bsky.social:
Important rule: If Poilievre decides to run in a byelection, Carney can postpone it over seven months.
Meantime Poilievre can’t enter Parliament. He can gaze longingly from the sidewalk where he took the truckers coffee and donuts.
@whyrllwynnd777.bsky.social:
Mind elaborating, please? I heard on CPAC while watching last night that he can’t be leader of the opposition with no riding seat. He can remain leader of the party, but can’t keep the house he’s in or leader of opposition status
@traveling4life.bsky.social:
You’re right. When Parliament convenes they will need to select someone to sit as leader of the opposition until he regains that status. Currently he is Leader of the Conservatives but not leader of the opposition until he wins a seat.
@ShameeHoo:
Poilievre was the culprit that divided this country. Good riddance
@integritycdn:
At the end of the day Pierre will be fine
He has plenty of friends with Trucks to help him move his stuff
@sgfleming.bsky.social:
For 3 years, Poilievre has campaigned using hate and fear.
His supporters may not like the MAGA comparison, but they are MAGA-light.
@kcountry.bsky.social:
Do you think they will learn the hate and fear perspective doesn’t always work.
@babethelogbuilder.bsky.social:
Plus, they are stupide.
@dawnalene.bsky.social:
These are the same ppl that had no regard for fellow citizens during Covid. They have no understanding of the social contract
