Bonus episode! New low for Hanky Panky Danielle Smith covering-up her cover-up of UCP’s MHCare procurement scandal cover-up.

Danielle Smith/UCP’s health care procurement scandal erupts into “one of the most epic legal battles Alberta has ever seen.” It’s like a weekly series, can’t wait for the next episode …

Daniel Marks:

Out here in rural Alberta, we still have her supporters striking out at anybody who dares to question her. The land of religious home schooling and the refusal to even consider a scientific fact is just the norm. They are attacking Nenshi for this and don’t care that he isn’t in power.

Shelly Anderson:

Smith thinks we’re stupid and that Albertans won’t notice her devious and corrupt machinations! Every move she makes is further confirmation she is guilty, guilty, guilty!

Ben Favro:

This, and danielle smith being a huge part of the reason the federal conservatives will lose is why she won’t be premier much longer. Thank God.

Hilem Howard:

Why is LaGrange lying about the Auditor General?Lagrunge and Smith are lying because they know their base will let them get away with anything, and will vote them a bigger majority next election.

The UCP fraud stinks.

@TheBreakdownAB:

“Smith rejected any suggestion the move was a coverup, insisting it was being done to streamline the investigation”

This is a new low for smith and it strain credulity to the point of snapping.

@friesen_f:

When is the last time getting a bunch of lawyers involved streamlined anything? There’s only one reason she erected a wall of red tape around an investigator and it’s the same reason a govt would fire a whistleblower to begin with.

@DebatingChris:

Honestly, I’ve had enough of this government’s horseshit.

If an NDP or (as if it would ever happen) a Liberal provincial government did anything like Smith’s UCP has, there would be attack ads and protests every day until a public inquiry was held.

This is bullshit.

@Karen83079126:

“Single point of contact” involves how many lawyers and aides that we pay for?And how many trips to Trumpville to get instructions?

@MondoABx:

Streamline. What joke. Like she has “streamlined” health care by siloing, hiring consultants, removing communication and increasing wait times, while spending more.

@mfk6621:

Streamlined??!!

Going from one AHS with 1 CEO to 4 silo’s each with its own CEO & Board?

She’s created expensive redundancy, red tape, damaging internal competition, & “not my dept, you’ll have to go see…” as standard response — after campaigning on management-heavy AHS!

@RichardKnack:

“Streamline” ? Why are Smith & UCP against allowing the TRUTH & FACTS to come out instead of “streamline” investigation ?

Public Inquiry & complete forensic audit by Police Investigation of every Ministry in UCP.

@AlbertaDad16:

If she did everything right, as she claims, then call the public inquiry.

The fact she won’t request it, combined with the alleged NDAs and emails, suggests she knows she is wrong.

If she wants Albertans to see the “strong woman” she is, she needs to stop acting so weak.

@accomplisheddog:

Can someone being interviewed knowing a copy is being sent to Smith, speak freely?

How many board members and CEO’s have been fired?

@sad4hockey:

@ABDanielleSmith is one of the most dishonest politicians we’ve seen in Canada in decades. She belongs behind bars!

@fubardaddy:

It’s interference and obstruction

@uppitybitxh:

She’s a thief & con woman.

@dwiebe99:

This is so far over the line, it should end her premiership.

@CarolOl46565889:

Just how stupid does she think Albertans are??She knows how stupid her base of Evangelicals in rural Alberta are, they voted her into power, after watching her betray them by crossing the floor, killing the Wildrose Party. And, she’s organized a nice lying prayer breakie next week, to keep her worshippers in quiet obedience.

@shawnsearle:

@ABDanielleSmith You’re a traitor Dani, RESIGN!!

@A_Scutz:

I have had enough of this UCP corruption and horrible policies. Smith is unethical and is focused on covering up all her abuse and thievery.

@BobRmcneil:

Like All MAGA they refuse to obey the law this is blatant hypocrisy

@GalCastaway:

The Federal election is distracting for me but something has to be done about @ABDanielleSmith. She works (pretends to) for Albertans, not the other way around.

She’s a grifter, a thief, a liar, who continues to do whatever dani wants, with a big fuck you to those who pay her

@TheAngryCoach1:

@houseofcronk:

@ABDanielleSmith continues to think Albertans are stupid. She is following the Trump playbook. Just keep lying when you are found out. Layer lie upon lie. I’m sick of it!

DanielleSmithMustResign

@g_gnedor:

If true, why wouldn’t the coordinator be a senior public servant? Why a lawyer? Why a private sector lawyer?

Robert Miller:

An interesting parallel occurred to me. During the Jan 6 Congressional Committee investigation, many Trump administration officials had their lawyers provided for them by a Trump supporting PAC, which then in turn instructed the individual witnesses to “colour” their testimony, and to use, “I don’t recall” as often as possible with the intent of stymieing the investigation.

Now, AHS employees are being instructed to go to the government lawyer before meeting with the Auditor General, instead of simply meeting with him directly. It is clear that like so many things, they are following the Trump playbook, and of course, attempting to cover up their actions.

The traitor Smith has a long history of duplicitous and dishonest actions and statements, so does anyone really think that this action of hers is anything sincere, since she didn’t even feel the need to discuss this with that Auditor General, and were it not for the leaked memo, it may never have come to light. That is your Premier, a corrupt, dishonest traitor. Put your province and country ahead of party.

Lynette Brown:

“…were it not for the leaked memo, it may never have come to light.” More to the point, the AG may not have understood what was blindsiding him until it was too late, thus potentially negating much of the investigative work he is trying to do.

“I suppose the auditor general could just be randomly trying to call people or we can have somebody as a navigator to coordinate what he needs, that’s why we have a single point of contact,” said Smith. “We want to be able to facilitate access to documents, facilitate the transfer of documents and give (Wylie) what he needs … we want to ensure there aren’t any barriers.”

It is not possible to be more disingenuous and manipulative than she is being now. Again, another priceless moment in the UCP/Smith’s disintergating and unravelling of her governance.

Her story changes more frequently than a baby’s diapers

Smith defends directing auditor general’s procurement investigation to lawyers by Bill Kaufmann, Apr 12, 2025

Having questions on contentious medical procurement from Alberta’s auditor general screened by government-contracted lawyers isn’t stonewalling but an effort to enhance efficiency, Premier Danielle Smith said Saturday.

In a leaked memo, a senior deputy minister instructs officials to redirect interview requests from the office of the auditor general to the government’s legal counsel.

“That should be done by email, and with a copy to me and our legal counsel.” The memo also recommends certain wording for emails.

That document has raised outrage from the UCP government critics, who say it shows its repeated vows of an unobstructed investigation into allegations from a former Alberta Health Services CEO about corrupt health-care procurement are worthless.

“They’re gagging Alberta Health employees from even speaking to the auditor general,” Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi said Friday.

“They’re ensuring the auditor general will only have the information the government wants them to have. This is unbelievable.”

Health Minister Adriana LaGrange said the practice was a common one and that Auditor General Doug Wylie was aware of the redirection.

But Wylie’s office told Postmedia on Friday he wasn’t aware of it, didn’t endorse the practice and said it wasn’t typically encountered in his office’s work with government.

On her regular radio talk show on QR77 Your Province, Your Premier on Saturday morning, Smith rejected any suggestion the move was a coverup, insisting it was being done to streamline the investigation, one of three probes into allegations made by fired AHS CEO Athana Mentzelopoulos.How stupid does Smith think Albertans are? Oh right, she knows how stupid rural Albertans are, that’s why they voted her into power, and worship her slimy corrupt cruel ass. Ya, “streamline” like AER and frac’ers do to cover-up their endless life-threatening crimes

“I suppose the auditor general could just be randomly trying to call people or we can have somebody as a navigator to coordinate what he needs, that’s why we have a single point of contact,” said Smith.

“We want to be able to facilitate access to documents, facilitate the transfer of documents and give (Wylie) what he needs … we want to ensure there aren’t any barriers.

“We want to make it as efficient as we possibly can.”

She said 13,000 documents have so far been provided to investigators.Ya, likely mostly fake shit, in true piss-on-the-law UCP style, to waste the AG’s time, deflect and create confusion. Hideous bunch.

Mentzelopoulos has claimed she was wrongfully terminated to stop her from investigating sweetheart deals and high-level political interference in multimillion-dollar health-procurement contracts.

In separate court filings, Mentzelopoulos has claimed her work had been praised by LaGrange and that suggestions she was fired for failing to meet the job’s expectations were “vindictive and malicious.”

AHS is claiming its former CEO sent nearly a dozen emails containing confidential information to herself the day before her firing — in breach of her employment agreement and giving her employers “just cause” to terminate her.

AHS is also seeking an injunction to prevent Mentzelopoulos from using any of the emails. According to an AHS summary, the emails dealt with chartered surgical facilities and a pair of freedom of information requests regarding MHCare, one of the companies alleged to have received an inflated contract.

On Saturday, Nenshi said Smith’s claims of reducing investigative barriers by adding a lawyer’s role is preposterous.

“Adding extra steps to a process, adding a gatekeeper is removing barriers only in her mind,” said the NDP leader.

“Danielle Smith every day proves she has no idea how organizations, the world or the law really work,” said Nenshi.I think she does, but doesn’t give a shit, she wants to be Nazi Governor of Alberta, to destroy public health to give massive profit to her greedy pals in private health care, and to copy Adolf Orange and remove the courts so that nothing stands in her hideous cruel abusive fascist ways.

Smith again rejected calls for a public inquiry into the matter, saying investigations that include one by a retired Manitoba provincial court judge into the private clinic contracts and a costly deal for a Tylenol substitute should but obviously don’t (that’s why Smith hired that retired judge, I bet with Smith’s lawyers or MHCare writing his ruling before he even agreed to the contractsuffice. That’s expected to result in a final report by the end of June.

“We haven’t seen anything at the moment that warrants a public inquiry,” Smith said Saturday.The rest of us sure have.

The RCMP is also investigating the matter.

Nenshi said allegations of corruption and illegality mean there are plenty of reasons to hold a public inquiry.

So basically the UCP lied to cover up their cover up. #AbLeg

@losalvz:

I want to know who the UCP Law firm is.Denton’s? Where Herr Hideous Harper, Dani’s boss, slithered to after Canadians punted his dirty ass?

@JasonOnTheDrums:

Cndpoli #Canpoli #Ableg

She’s not a freedom fighter – she’s a criminal who despises what Canada stands for.

And she’s voting for @PierrePoilievre

Ask yourself why.

@putzeh:

I bet she thinks Pierre if elected PM will “pardon” her.

I suspect this given a couple of the freedom idiots said they were expressing their first amendment rights…

Which the first amendment in Canada was Manitoba becoming a province. Weird thing to express to a judge…

@JasonOnTheDrums:

Same promise Alberta’s seditionist premier Danielle Smith made

@CanadianModera1:

Give me four words that describe @ABDanielleSmith and the UCP…

I’ll go first:

  • Corrupt
  • Heartless
  • Dishonest
  • Sedititous

Now you…

FireTheUCP

Premier Smith has fashioned her UCP gov in Alberta using MAGA tactics and ideology. It is not pretty out here.

Take it from this Albertan. Canada does not want Poilievre, or anyone who emulates Trump or Smith, to govern our country.
