A couple of interesting stories on the CBC Calgary site this morning are germane to this discussion. The first demonstrates that, despite over a year of shameless propaganda from the UCP, support for separation remains virtually flat at 27%. Interestingly, it also shows that support for separation is strongest among those with relatively high incomes but are struggling to get by. In less polite terms, that would be greedy people with a sense of entitlement.

I agree entirely with those who see Smith/Amery’s referendum latest as a crude political party propaganda exercise. I also agree that that all the costs should be paid by the UCP, not by the poor defrauded taxpayers of Alberta. Perhaps a lawsuit to seek this result will be necessary. The position of the First Nations is really quite straightforward: The Provincial Government has no legal authority whatsoever over FN people or land, at the very least in relation to the Reserves. That authority is reserved solely to the Federal Crown. While the Federal Crown can, and does, enter in to agreements with the Province to pay the Province for providing certain services it does not, and cannot, ever unilaterally transfer actual ultimate authority to the Province. Full clear consent of the FNs is demonstrably not going to be forthcoming. As a retired lawyer & law professor I believe that the FN’s position is totally correct in law, and, I might add, in morality, although neither consideration normally affects the efforts of Smith/Amery.
GRAHAM:
More proof this separation waste of time and energy isn’t going to happen. The ucp and those who keep pushing it should be held accountable and made to pay the full cost of all this wasted time and the cost to government for entertaining the donuts.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/alberta-separatism-janet-brown-mitch-sylvestre-9.7178496
… First Nations in Alberta have already made it clear they have zero interest in separating from Canada. Right now they are actively working to get their legal teams before the courts and they hope to put the kibosh on the entire smith, ucp, tba, black hat donuts, plans. Oh, as well more than enough Albertans are polling that they too have zero interest in separating. You and the donuts are free to leave anytime though and I’m sure a ride to the US border could be arranged.
… The ones who don’t have leverage are the separatists who are talking a big game but they got nothing. They don’t have the numbers and the Canada Forever petition that beats them in both numbers X2 and by time, done months ago, should be the first referendum. It’s criminal of the smith authoritarians to not do so.
“Yes, First Nations in Alberta have a significant, active legal case to stop the attempted separation (secession) of the province from Canada. As of April 2026, multiple First Nations, including the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Piikani, and Blood tribes), have filed lawsuits and injunctions to stop separation efforts.
Global News +4
Their legal challenges are based on the following key arguments and actions:
- Treaty Rights Violation: First Nations argue that separation would breach Treaties 6, 7, and 8, which were signed with the federal Crown, not the province. They contend that a province cannot unilaterally tear up these treaties to leave Canada.
- Lack of Consent: The Nations argue that any separation effort without their free, prior, and informed consent is illegal and violates their constitutionally protected rights.
- Injunction to Stop Petitions: In April 2026, a Court of King’s Bench judge granted a stay that paused the Alberta electoral officer from certifying signatures for a separatist petition, pending a judicial review of the process.
- Constitutional Challenge: First Nations are challenging the constitutionality of the provincial Citizen Initiative Act, which was amended to allow this referendum, arguing it violates the Constitution Act, 1982.
- Irreparable Harm: Lawyers for the First Nations argued in court that the ongoing petition drive itself causes “irreparable harm” by creating uncertainty and eroding Treaty relationships.
Global News +5
While proponents of separation argue they have gathered enough signatures for a referendum, the courts have paused the process to deliberate on the First Nations’ claims. First Nations leaders have expressed that they will continue to fight the separation in court and on the ground.

You should read the treaty yourself. The language “to have and to hold” in the treaty is always interpreted by lawyers as “by the Crown, for the benefit of those who formerly owned or tenanted those lands”. And that wasn’t the settlers. You have some “re-thinking” to do.
Last time I checked, we are in a much more organized State and situation than British columbia. Albertans live on ceded territory.
Hmmm… have you actually Read Treaty Six?
https://www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/1100100028710/1581292569426
Note the traditional language of the Crown: “to have and to hold”, traditionally interpreted as in stewardship for the benefit of her subjects (remember this was made under Queen Victoria). That means all the coal minhes and oil and gas and foresty licences opened on those territories were actually for the benefit of the First Nations that the Queen made treaty with.
Somehow it doesn’t quite look like that to me. I think there’s some compensation and restoration due. But you look and tell me what you think.

There are and have been dishonest politicians, then there’s Smith. Last week she was pontificating that she wants to see Alberta remain in Canada, this week she spends public money on a campaign that is hard to describe in any manner other than separatist.
Quite frankly, if you want a mandate call an election; however, for Smith that would mean the successful ballot referendum that did garner the signatures necessary before the standard was lowered would also be put to the voters, so Smith invents these 5, 7 or 9 questions instead and these go to the voters without an actual election, thus scuttling the one simple question that remains unanswered.
And, she dresses this up with soothing words about consultation and citizen engagement and listening, what a sad excuse for a democrat.

The easiest thing to do in politics is fault find. The much more difficult thing to do is find long term workable solutions. With this in mind, from everything I read and view, the separatists are long on the former and short on the latter. What I hear are a lot of complaints and rhetoric about being free from of the Ottawa yoke. What I don’t see is a lot of clear eyed vision of the consequences of “freedom” from those nasty easterners. There’s no recognition of how to build their own pension plan, police and judiciary, passport, border patrol, currency, armed forces ( navy!), etc. How ever will they gain access to their summer cottages in BC’s Okanagan with having to cross an international border twice? Despite a tendency to characterize the separatists as dumb as a sack of hammers, that would be a huge mistake. There are some very intelligent folks involved who are skillfully manipulating the larger mass of people with over simplified rhetoric and slogans. But I can’t help but wonder what their personal motivation might be if separation does occur. Is it possible that power, ultimate aphrodisiac might just be in play?

What seems to be missing from the whole conversation is what the legal parameters are around a potential separation, who actually gets to say, do the other provinces get a say, what the Canadian constitution says, what voice/authority do FNs have in the process (before, during, after the vote)……
And if it’s like Brexit where say 51% say yes, then 49% are held hostage? It’s basically a coin toss at that point and as we have seen with Brexit, it’s a logistical…let alone political and economic….disaster waiting to happen.
Separation is one thing (i.e. becoming an independent nation). Defection to the US is another.

The Dishonest Online Campaign to Support Alberta Separatism, A research group raises red flags about foreign interference in the province’s independence referendum by Charles Rusnell, April 21, 2026, The Tyee
A new research report raises questions about who is pushing Alberta’s separatist movement.
A network of 20 inauthentic YouTube accounts has racked up nearly 40 million views by peddling lies, grievance, division and narratives normalizing the prospect of Alberta’s secession and annexation by the United States.
“Because these channels offer no identifying information to real humans or organizations, nor ties to the secession movement in Alberta, we are flagging this phenomenon as a potential covert influence operation produced by unknown actors pursuing unclear objectives,” states a report released today by the Canadian Digital Media Research Network.
“These videos contain frequent and obvious lies, drawing on real news stories to reach exaggerated conclusions designed to exploit political divisions,” the report states, adding that the news is discussed “from a perspective of a highly aggrieved, anti-federal government perspective.”
Researchers could not determine which countries the videos originated from, where the people who are consuming the videos live or the intent.
Chris Ross is the senior analyst at the Media Ecosystem Observatory at McGill University in Montreal, which co-ordinates work by media researchers across Canada.
Ross, a Calgary native, said separatism is obviously a major topic in Alberta and these YouTube videos are getting a lot of views.
“So we can’t rule out that the purpose may be clickbait and engagement farming for profit.
“But because of the political content and the very extreme grievance-oriented language, there also is a potential political angle. So it’s difficult to tell when you don’t know who the origins of the channels are or their target audience.”
The Tyee asked Patrick Lennon, a former criminal intelligence manager for the RCMP’s federal policing program in Alberta, to review the report. His interpretation of the quantitative evidence collected by the researchers, which he called “extraordinary,” is much more direct.
Lennon said that while academic researchers are not going to draw a straight line to U.S. financiers or MAGA influencers, “any common-sense reading of that report would understand it to be for an influence job.”
“I think if you just look at it more broadly, it suggests that of the U.S. annexation. And the co-ordination effort is so obvious.”
The genesis for the digital media research network report was a November Canadian Press report that revealed the potential for an Alberta sovereignty referendum had launched a tsunami of clickbait stories on video-sharing sites earlier in 2025.
The story detailed how content farms, which usually use AI to narrate videos, had circumvented a ban on “AI slop” — mass-produced, misleading content — by using real people to narrate and appear in videos.
The videos studied by researchers for this network report use AI-generated deepfakes of politicians — often Alberta Premier Danielle Smith or Prime Minister Mark Carney — with maps in the background showing some combination of western provinces as part of the United States.
The videos’ content is often a voice-over of clipped news sources, ranging from traditional media news snippets to clips from the YouTube accounts of authentic separatists.
Because so many use similar clips it appears a template is being employed, the report states. And while the content is likely disseminated among many channels using an automated process, a significant amount of work would be required to source and edit the clips into video segments.
The videos contain frequent blatant lies. For example, the Canadian Reporter channel opens with the following quote in its most popular video, which drew 710,000 views.
“The western provinces just dropped a political bombshell that is shaking Ottawa to its core, declaring moves towards the 51st through 56th statehoods with shocking authority.”
Fifty seconds later, the narrator declares: “I am witnessing decades of ignored comments, dismissed warnings and brushed-off facts finally exploding in Ottawa’s face.
“And here comes the punch, 65 per cent of Albertans, 61 per cent of Saskatchewan residents and 58 per cent of Manitobans openly supporting separation or even U.S. statehood.
“At this point, anyone who is still calling this fringe is either blind, they’re lying, or they’re desperately hoping that everyone else stays clueless.”
None of the polling statistics stated in the video are true.
The study also found that the secession-related content produced by these YouTube channels significantly focused on “grievance framing alongside pro-U.S. annexation narratives.”
In my view, there is little positive about Pedo-farming, genocidal, oil-thieving, law-violating USA![]()
Researchers classify three types of grievances: political, economic and cultural.
“On the inauthentic channels, grievance framing is overwhelmingly political and economic. On average, 65 per cent of video segments in Alberta-mentioning videos contain such framing, while approximately seven per cent are favourable toward U.S. annexation.”
Researchers found that compared with the YouTube accounts of real Alberta separatists, the inauthentic channels featured about 60 per cent more grievance framing and about 12 times more video segments discussing U.S. annexation favourably.
“While authentic Albertan secessionists discuss their politics with high amounts of grievance and low favourability towards U.S. annexation, the inauthentic channels not only amplify grievance framing but also skew the discourse toward favourable characterizations of U.S. annexation,” the report states.
The report says its finding of 40 million views of propaganda in 12 months raises serious concerns about the integrity of the Canadian media ecosystem, particularly given the 2024 revelation that the Tenet Media YouTube channel was a Russian-funded influence operation. It accumulated 15 million views in one year.
not surprising given that the Fucker Truckers were financed and goaded on by Team Putin and his poodle, Trump.![]()
With a referendum on separation scheduled to be held in Alberta in October, the report says it hopes this information helps the public, governments and social media platforms to respond accordingly.
??? Social media platforms are owned and operated by Nazis, they serve fucking genocidal USA, Israel and or Putin, and pedophiles and rapists.![]()
The Canadian Digital Media Research Network is calling on YouTube to share information about the account creation and ownership history of channels identified as part of co-ordinated inauthentic networks and whether paid promotion or ad targeting was used to direct content toward specific regions.
They also want YouTube to disclose data so that researchers can determine who is actually watching this content and expand community notes so that viewers can directly flag misleading content

Elections Alberta seeks injunction for prominent separatist group to disclose finances, donors by Matthew Scace, April 21, 2026, The Globe and Mail
Elections Alberta on Monday asked a judge to adjourn a hearing without setting a future court date, as it seeks an injunction that would force a prominent Alberta independence group to disclose its financial documents and donors.
Counsel for Elections Alberta did not table a notice before the Court of King’s Bench to discontinue the proceedings and the injunction is still pending.
However, it’s unclear what the next steps will be in the case.
The provincial agency alleges that the Alberta Prosperity Project (APP) breached third-party advertising laws by paying for public messaging in excess of the province’s $1,000 limit for non-registered groups, according to court records obtained by The Globe and Mail.
Since early January, lawyers for APP have rebuffed efforts by the elections agency to dig into the organization’s finances. Elections Alberta in mid-March filed its injunction application that would compel the group to register as a third-party advertiser and disclose its donors and expenses.
Jeffrey Rath, APP independence movement leader and counsel, told The Globe that he and the group’s chief financial officer, Gregory Hartzler, met with Elections Alberta last Friday.
Mr. Rath said he presented evidence that he believes exonerates the group.
I don’t believe or trust what Rath says or believes, or anything he or his fellow shits say.![]()
“They’re still, quote, unquote, reviewing the documents that we provided to them. But the reality of it is that they haven’t got a case and it’s extremely unlikely that they’re going to be moving forward,” Mr. Rath said on Monday.
Elections Alberta declined to comment, noting it is prohibited by law from speaking publicly about investigations. Ashley Reid, counsel for the agency, also declined to comment on Monday after the court appearance, which lasted less than a minute.
In Alberta, the Prosperity Project has been the most prominent group to advocate for provincial independence. The movement’s support has polled between 20 and 30 per cent but has been energized in the past year through a combination of softened direct-democracy rules legislated by Premier Danielle Smith, the federal Liberals’ sustained governance in Ottawa and U.S. President Donald Trump’s 51st state provocations.
The Elections Alberta investigation is the first publicly known probe into the Prosperity Project, which garnered significant attention in the wake of at least three meetings between Mr. Rath, APP CEO Mitch Sylvestre and the U.S. State Department in the past year.
The two men have both trumpeted and played down the meetings, saying their message has been communicated to the Oval Office while arguing that they aren’t engaging in diplomacy on behalf of Alberta or being funded by U.S interests.
I repeat, in my view, nothing either man says or does is trustworthy. They are selfishly traitorously messing with all our lives to bloat their already bloated egos.![]()
The meetings have also fuelled questions about the Trump administration’s interest in the referendum push and potential unchecked foreign interference.
Ms. Smith has spoken at previous events held by the group and Mr. Sylvestre is a United Conservative Party constituency president.
Since the beginning of the year, however, the once highly active Prosperity Project has ceased almost all activities.
In its place, Mr. Rath and Mr. Sylvestre have built a new group called Stay Free Alberta to champion the effort toward collecting the nearly 178,000 signatures required to force an independence referendum. If current legal challenges to the petition fail, Alberta is likely to hold an independence vote on Oct. 19.
Huge waste of money, which Alberta can’t afford to waste, for nothing but a bunch of lying traitorous thugs to farm rage, hatred and ignorance while grubbing for money from the ignorant masses. Liar Danielle Smith is the worst of them.![]()
Mr. Rath argues that the Prosperity Project’s hiatus means it does not qualify as a third-party advertiser and its financials and donor list should be off limits.
Legal hanky panky in my view which demands its financials and donor list are made public to prove there isn’t foreign interference and to prove that the separatists are heeding the law which apparently they are not, which is not in the least surprising.![]()
The Prosperity Project is governed by the Alberta Prosperity Society, which registered as a non-profit in 2022, according to corporate records.
Little is known about the financial support it has received. According to financial information in the corporate registry, the Prosperity Society received more than $1-million in donations in 2022
During the Fucker Trucker invasions
and $103,000 in donations in 2023.

Its statements of operation for the following years aren’t publicly available.
Mr. Rath said the donation amounts indicate widespread support for Alberta independence.
Trump 0r Trump’s boss Putin, or the vile religion-corrupted misogynistic racist bigoted Heritage Fdn or CAPP could have donated $one million in one go. The total amounts donated annually mean little and certainly do not indicate support for separating (and bankrupting) Alberta, or lack of support, another reason the financials and donor list must be made public. The Canadians these jerks are putting at risk need to know who the traitors are and how many are foreign.![]()
Elections Alberta disclosed its investigation into the Prosperity Project and Prosperity Society on March 13 when it asked the Court of King’s Bench for an injunction order that would force the group to provide reports detailing expenses and donations it had received since early January.
It would also ban the Prosperity Project from advertising until it registered as a third-party advertiser and force it to create a bank account with Elections Alberta, the court documents say.
Under Alberta’s citizen-initiative laws, groups must register with Elections Alberta if it has spent, or plans to spend, $1,000 or more in advertising or accept that much in contributions during the petition period.
Elections Alberta’s investigation contends that the Prosperity Project may have breached both those rules since the independence signature campaign started on Jan. 2.
In an affidavit, Ryan Tebb, Elections Alberta’s director of compliance and enforcement, wrote that the agency uncovered evidence that the Prosperity Project has exceeded legal limits partly by paying for an advertisement on a tractor-trailer off the side of Highway 2, about an hour south of Edmonton.
The advertisement, plastered to the side of an unhitched trailer, reads “Say Yes to an independent Alberta” with a link to the Prosperity Project’s website.
The ad company, Hi-Way Ads, charges about $700 a month for space on their trailers, according to its website. The independence advertisement, passed by at least 30,000 vehicles daily, is still there, meaning a contract of that length would put the Prosperity Project in violation of the $1,000 spending limit. The link to the APP website, however, has been removed.
Mr. Rath said Stay Free Alberta reimbursed the Prosperity Project for the advertisement, which was paid for in full last October.
Mr. Tebb also alleges in his affidavit that the Prosperity Project paid for social-media posts during the first week of the independence campaign. Mr. Rath said those ads were paid for by Stay Free Alberta.
Elections Alberta listed other supporting evidence, including that the group has been holding town halls and a “pledge” page attempting to gather support for the independence petition.
On Feb. 2, the Prosperity Project was asked to produce all online contributions received through its donations webpage from Jan. 2 to Jan. 31, expenses and invoices for town halls over that period, and receipts for advertising about an Alberta independence referendum.
The group did not meet the Feb. 17 deadline.
In my view, the separatists, like the Fucker Truckers, don’t give a shit about the courts or the rules or rule of law, or about the truth or about the rights of the many they are harming.![]()
Instead, on that day, Mr. Rath wrote a letter to Election Commissioner Paula Hale outlining why he believed the Prosperity Project wasn’t required to register as a third-party advertiser. Mr. Rath described the group as “a loose affiliation of individuals” and denied the existence of the Prosperity Project’s donation portal because it “is not a legal entity.”
Ms. Hale replied eight days later on Feb. 25. In a four-page letter, she rebuked several of his arguments.
“At best, your response to date has been misinformed; at worst, it has been obstructive,” Ms. Hale wrote. She set a new deadline for March 12.
Mr. Rath replied again on deadline day, where he challenged Elections Alberta’s evidence and accused it of “baseless accusations.”
Joseph Redman, counsel for Elections Alberta, replied the following day, on March 13, responding to each of Mr. Rath’s concerns. He wrote that Ms. Hale’s order “is not an invitation for discussion; it is a legal demand.”
Mr. Redman filed an injunction application that day ordering the Prosperity Project to turn over its financials.
On Monday, Mr. Rath called the investigation – now in its fourth month – a “waste of time.”
“From our perspective, all of this was completely unnecessary,” he said.
It sure as hell is needed from my perspective. I want to know who is financing the separatists’ attempted destruction of the country I live in.![]()
Alberta Prosperity Project Faces Court Date over Separation Referendum Role, Election commissioner alleges the organization has stonewalled investigations into potential referendum petition spending by Charles Rusnel, April 18, 2026, The Tyee
The Alberta Prosperity Project has been under investigation by Alberta’s election commissioner since mid-January for allegedly failing to register as a third-party advertiser in the ongoing independence referendum petition campaign.
Court documents obtained by The Tyee show lawyers for Election Commissioner Paula Hale are scheduled to be in an Edmonton court on Monday in an attempt to gain an injunction against the Alberta Prosperity Project, or APP.
The injunction seeks to force the APP to register as a third-party advertiser and comply with an order to essentially show where its funding is coming from and how it is being spent.
In my view, the Alberta separatists, notably the leaders, have no respect for the rule of law unless they want to wield it and have no respect for the rights of others not part of their racist kkklan, and likely not even for their own in the kkklan. I expect any order against them by any judge will be ignored, just as they’ll ignore the vote results when they fail the referendum.![]()
The order also asks a judge to stop the APP from conducting any more advertising until it registers.
Pfffft! I think the separatist won’t heed that either![]()
The court documents show the APP has defied two notices from an investigator to produce financial and other records related to its alleged advertising of the referendum petition.
The advertising is alleged to have occurred on social media, including APP’s own web page where it solicits donations, on a billboard on the main highway between Edmonton and Calgary and through dozens of town hall meetings allegedly organized by the APP.
In a letter in response to the second notice from the investigator to produce specific records, APP lawyer Jeffrey Rath accused the commission of making “baseless accusations” and of bias, procedural unfairness and incompetence.
Bully fool with rancid mouth and ego thinks he’s Trump.![]()

In a March 12 letter in response, the commissioner’s lawyer, Joseph Redman, tells Rath that “compliance with the notices to produce records is not an optional activity” and that failure to comply “can have significant consequences.”
I bet no consequences will come; they’re white men.![]()
“A notice to produce issued by the election commissioner is not an invitation for discussion; it is a legal demand,” Redman wrote.
Haven’t you noticed yet? The separatists don’t give a shit about the law. If they did, they wouldn’t be pulling their racist stunt and sucking money from Alberta idiots.![]()
Redman also rejected Rath’s claims of bias.
“Such attacks are not conducive to moving this matter forward to completion,” Redman states, adding that the commissioner “has met or exceeded her duties during this investigation.”
Court documents show Athabasca Chipewyan Chief Allan Adam first filed a complaint on Dec. 19 to Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure, who in turn passed it on to Hale.
On Jan. 12, after receiving more submissions from Adam’s lawyer, Hale approved an investigation into whether the APP should be a registered third party.
Two requests for records were sent to Rath, who was acting for Mitch Sylvestre, the APP’s CEO and the main proponent of the so-called Stay Free Alberta petition. Also named was Dennis Modry, the APP co-chair.
The threshold requiring registration is low. If advertising exceeds $1,000, the organization must register as a third-party advertiser.
In an affidavit, investigator Ryan Tebb said Sylvestre and Modry were asked for records of any online contributions received through the APP portal, on the NationBuilder platform, between Jan. 2 and 31.
The Stay Free Alberta petition was issued Jan. 2 and started collecting signatures the following day. Under provincial law, the campaign needs to collect about 178,000 signatures to trigger a referendum on Alberta separating from Canada. Sylvestre has said they have already surpassed that figure.
I don’t believe him, in my view, he’s not trustworthy. I fully expect any counting they do will be filled with hanky panky![]()
The two men were also asked for copies of invoices or receipts related to town hall meetings hosted by the APP between Jan. 2 and 31. This included venue rental costs or the fair-market value costs that may have been donated in kind, regardless of the amount, including food and beverages, and any cash contributions received. The APP has held dozens of these town halls across the province.

The investigator’s affidavit describes a billboard he viewed and photographed on Highway 2 near the Wetaskiwin exit emblazoned with the slogan “Say Yes to an Independent Alberta.”
The billboard was sponsored by “Albertaprosperitynow.com” and the website is branded as “Alberta Prosperity Project. The Referendum Movement for a Sovereign Alberta.”
The investigator said the billboard costs about $700 a month and between 30,480 and 36,000 cars passed it each day.
A second revised request to the Alberta Prosperity Project asked for “copies of all invoices/receipts for any means of transmission of advertising that promotes or opposes ‘A Referendum Relating to Alberta Independence’ or the legislation, policy or constitutional question proposed by the petition, including but not limited to expenses related to billboards, print, television and radio advertising and expenses related to ‘pushed’ social media or other advertising on Meta, YouTube, Bluesky, X or other internet platforms.”
For the production deadlines of Feb. 17 and March 12 set by the election commissioner, Rath, as APP legal counsel, responded on those exact dates but provided no records.
Rath claimed the APP was not a legal entity and therefore couldn’t register as a third party under either the provincial Citizen Initiative Act or the Citizen Initiative Regulation.
“Alberta Prosperity Project is a loose affiliation of individuals, NOT a legal entity having any legal personality in any sense of the word,” Rath wrote (his emphasis).
Fuck, what a balloon. The separatists have very little going for them but they are tight, tight in their hatred of any one not on their side, not white christian male and their love for pedo rapist convicted felon orange man idiot Trump which is strange because of their hatred of persons in non white skin![]()
“As such, Alberta Prosperity Project cannot sue or be sued nor can Alberta Prosperity Project be found to be in breach of any registration requirement under the relevant statutes.”
OMG that’s fucking hilarious – the APP are as stupid as Trump, perhaps more so. But I bet ya APP maintains the right to sue others, including police, if their leaders or members end up tossed in the slammer.![]()
Rath claimed the titles given to Sylvestre and Modry were “merely honorary and have no legal significance,” and they were “nothing more than individuals” and the APP is not a registered corporation with officers and directors.
“That said, Alberta Prosperity Project individuals have all been advised by Stay Free Alberta and Mitch Sylvestre that Alberta Prosperity Project is to have no role in the petition campaign.”

The APP, Rath said, had not spent $1,000 for advertising and the “Alberta Prosperity Project has not colluded with Mr. Sylvestre to circumvent any financial limits by colluding as a Third-Party Advertiser.”
Then hand over your fucking records.![]()
“To the best of our knowledge,” Rath said, any individuals formerly associated with APP have been told they are on “hiatus.”
Douffus! These fucks think they can run their own country? JFC, stupidity and arrogance on crack
He said any individuals including Dennis Modry “are undertaking activities on their own behalf and not on behalf of Mr. Sylvestre, the petition proponent.”

Rath claimed the APP does not have a NationBuilder account because it is not a legal entity. He said there were no invoices because no expenses were paid to the APP on behalf of Mr. Sylvestre. And he said “there are no other relevant documents because APP did not hold any events during Jan. 2 to 26.”
“Finally, with regards to any means of advertising for a referendum of independence, no such invoice or receipt exists as no such expenditures were made by the Alberta Prosperity Project.”
In response to Rath’s letter, Hale, the election commissioner, pointed out that the Alberta Prosperity Prospect Society incorporated under the provincial Societies Act on Jan. 26, with Sylvestre as the chair and Rath as a director.
The APP society is “the governing body controlling and providing direction to the Alberta Prosperity Project, a branch project of the Society.”
“As a result, it appears that APP is in fact a corporate entity, notwithstanding your statement to the contrary,” Hale wrote.
The description of the APP as simply a loose affiliation of individuals still meets the definition of a group under the Citizen Initiative Act and it should be registered, she said.
As for the claim that the APP does not have a NationBuilder account, Hale pointed out that APP’s “public-facing website continues to identify that its registration and donation pages are ‘created by NationBuilder.’”
The claim that the APP has incurred no costs for advertising is belied by Meta advertising, “which was explicitly sponsored by the Alberta Prosperity Project,” and the Highway 2 billboard, which was clearly labelled as being sponsored by the APP.
And Rath’s claim that the APP was on “hiatus” is contradicted by a Jan. 3 town hall in which the host and others introduced themselves as acting on behalf of the APP.
In a five-page letter of response on March 12, Rath again did not produce any records and contested every main point made by Hale.
“Our clients remain willing to cooperate with any lawful investigation conducted within the framework of the [Citizen Initiative Act],” Rath wrote. But in order to respond appropriately, Rath asked Elections Alberta to clarify six issues, including providing specific evidence that supported an investigation and any ”specific document, request, or conduct that Elections Alberta believes constitutes obstruction” under the act.
“Our objective remains to ensure that all parties are working from a clear and accurate understanding of the facts and the statutory framework governing the initiative process,”
Doesn’t look like that to me
Rath wrote.
Redman, the election commissioner’s lawyer, responded to Rath’s March 12 letter.
Referring to Rath’s request for clarification on six points, Redman reminded Rath that the “election commissioner’s investigative process is not dictated by the individuals under investigation.
“The election commissioner has no obligation to justify her investigation to your satisfaction.”
Redman then told Rath his client is still required to produce the information requested.
I bet he won’t![]()
The hearing Monday will determine if the Alberta Prosperity Project is required to comply with the notices of production from the election commissioner.
The outcome may play a role in a separate civil case related to the independence referendum petition.
Earlier this month, an Edmonton Court of King’s Bench judge issued an order that temporarily blocked Alberta’s chief electoral officer from certifying Sylvestre’s petition on provincial independence.
The judge issued the stay order on the certification until she makes a ruling on the case brought forward by First Nations. But the signature gathering has been allowed to continue.
During a three-day hearing, the First Nations asked the judge to review a Jan. 2 decision by the chief electoral officer to approve the independence petition.
The First Nations argued that independence is impossible without their consent because it would breach their treaty rights. They also expressed concern about the potential for foreign interference in the petition process.
Rath has repeatedly boasted about several meetings between the APP and U.S. State Department officials, some directly connected to the White House, in Washington, D.C.
At one point in the hearing, Court of King’s Bench Justice Shaina Leonard directly asked Redman, the Elections Alberta lawyer, if the APP had disclosed its financial records related to its independence activities.
“I don’t think I could say that we know nothing,” Redman told the court. “I think that there are records that have been requested that have not been provided.”

MAGA’s plan for Canada: not annexation, but dismemberment by Andrew Coyne, April 14, 2026, The Globe and Mail
No one knows where Donald Trump got the notion of annexing Canada. It hasn’t been seriously suggested by any significant figure in American politics for at least a century. There has been next to no take-up of the proposal, even among his MAGA followers.
But the underlying premises – the idea that America must have complete dominion over the Western Hemisphere; that Canada is less a friendly ally than a troublesome appendage; that relations between the two countries should be based not on mutual benefit, but on dominance and despoliation – these are everywhere in the MAGA universe.
Annexation may not be on the table. But the idea that Canada must be tamed, subdued, brought to heel – reduced, in other words, to a vassal state – is very much part of MAGA thinking. Bad enough that we have degenerated into a socialist, woke dystopia. But we are also resisting American dictates in matters of foreign, defence, and trade policy. We have become a problem, in need of a solution.
As an example, consider the work of the Defense Analyses and Research Corporation (DARC), which describes itself as a “new kind of defense think tank,” very much in line with current thinking in the White House: aggressive, unilateralist, and unbound by any of “the fundamental assumptions of warfare and foreign affairs that have defined recent decades of U.S. statecraft.”
Opinion: Does the Conservative Party of Canada want to be a MAGA branch plant?
It’s a curious sort of organization: little known, of recent origin and uncertain provenance. Several of its contributors write under pseudonyms. But it’s not nothing, either. Among the named contributors are several prominent MAGA activists and, for want of a better word, intellectuals.
And while it would probably be too much to credit it for any particular Republican policy, it certainly seems to reflect current MAGA thinking. The site published several articles last year arguing for the revival of “letters of marque,” enlisting privateers in the fight against drug cartels; not long after, the idea was taken up in a bill by Republicans in Congress. It has likewise championed causes such as a revamped Monroe Doctrine (the “Trump Corollary”) and annexing Cuba before they emerged as administration policy. So we should take it at least somewhat seriously.
Last summer DARC ran a piece on “Our Canadian Problem,” which described how Canada, born of anti-Americanism, had lately resumed this adversarial posture, under the influence of multiculturalism, the judiciary and the 1982 Constitution. Canada, the author wrote, “is poised in coming years to become a serious and present threat to the interests of the United States.”
What to do about this emerging threat? The author considers several options, from limiting intelligence sharing, to targeted intelligence operations (“several agents should be tasked with developing relationships with Native American tribal leadership in the western provinces”).
“Overt aggression” is ruled out (“it would be difficult to justify the annexation of resource rich parts of Canada while simultaneously trying to maintain international coalitions against the conquests of Ukraine or Taiwan.”)
Rather, it recommends “the dismemberment of Canada,” via U.S. support for provincial secession campaigns. At least, this would “cripple the federal fisc”; it might even lead to a piecemeal annexation.
Another DARC contributor has lately returned to the theme. “Canada’s desire for strategic autonomy,” he writes, “poses a serious national security problem for the United States,”
Israel is a much greater security threat for Nazi USA than Canada could ever be, and Trump being Putin’s poodle is an even worse threat for American Nazis
citing the Carney government’s recent trade deal with China.

“The United States cannot share the longest undefended border in the world with a country so eager to court hostile great powers in our hemisphere.”
Where does the cheap tasteless junk come from that Americans buy en mass? Even Trump’s MAGA hats are made in China. Scheesch, DARC stupidity roars.![]()

Attempting to annex Canada, however, would be “counterproductive,” serving only to unify the country against the United States. Rather, it recommends a “centrifugal strategy.”

Canada, the author writes, “is a deeply fragile country, one that is riddled with centrifugal forces, new and old, that continue to threaten to tear apart the union. … U.S. strategy should be to achieve the fragmentation, not annexation, of Canada.”
DARC dude knows not Canada, or Canadians. PS, Alberta separatists are not representative, they are a spoiled selfish ignorant minority.![]()
The whole thing is written in a peculiarly bloodless tone, as if by a disturbed teenager contemplating dissecting a frog. “The United States does not need to kill Canada,” he writes at one point. “Canada will dig its own grave soon.”
Me thinks DARC dude describes Trump destroying America for Putin but hasn’t realized it yet.![]()

American policy should be limited to giving these “centrifugal forces” a helpful nudge, whether by covert aid to secessionist movements or by “supporting the native ‘reconciliation’ efforts,” which will “further demoralize the Canadian elites.”
It’s insane, of course, informed by a blinkered understanding of Canadian history and society and animated by a quite psychotic disregard for the welfare of the people
just like the Alberta separatists
it proposes to experiment on. But that’s the point. Everything about MAGA
and the Alberta separatists, UCP and Danielle Smith
is insane. The President is insane. Just because it’s insane doesn’t mean he won’t try it. If anything, that’s what will recommend it to him.
@vanellemusic.bsky.social:
On the other hand, many of DRAC’s heinous ‘policies’ have been adopted, and should not be ignored. The MAGA underbelly is a full blown Bond villain evil organization.
There is already MAGA money flowing to Alberta separatists.
