AEUB spy probe to go public by jeremy loome, Legislature Bureau, September 6, 2007, Edmonton Sun
Mason called it a crisis of public confidence in elected officials. “It’s of very significant concern, not just in Alberta but nationally and internationally, that a government agency was allegedly involved in spying on the citizens that it is supposed to be listening to.” The premier is aware of the gravity of the allegations, which is why the report was handled independent of government, Chance noted. “It hasn’t been submitted to the minister yet,” he said, “and once that does happen we will release it very quickly – not only the report, but the government’s report and response to it.”
