Zohran Mamdani: “I will no longer look for myself in the shadows. I will find myself in the light.”

@GozukaraFurkan:

This is the most important political speech of 2025. It has depth, heart, pain, pride, and hope.

@SanaSaeed:

I’m glad the campaign finally addressed the vile, violent anti-Muslim racism that threatens not only Mamdani, but every Muslim in this country. This is powerful and must be seen.

One of the core reasons why Islamophobia is so casual, accepted and rampant in every nook and cranny of this country is because – in addition to being a structural bigotry that serves foreign policy ends – there is just no capital to be lost by being anti-Muslim in the institutions of this country – Mamdani outlines that a little here. Anti-Muslim racism (which is interlinked and inseparable from anti-Arab racism) has followed Mamdani’s campaign from day one. And it doesn’t always look like a nasty cartoon or being accused of cheering on the death of New Yorkers – it’s most commonly looked like asking this Muslim man about Israel, about his views on violence, about Jewish New Yorkers. And the campaign, unfortunately, capitulated too much and too often when it hasn’t had to.

This is good & necessary, especially in an election that has made one single group of New Yorkers as the sole and exceptionally important demographic of a city known for housing one of the most diverse populations in the world.

We can’t shut up about this. Because the same dehumanization that underlies the darkening of Mamdani’s skin on posters to make him look “scary”, the same dehumanization that underlies the questioning of his ability to protect people’s lives, the same dehumanization faced by Muslims in New York that he talks about is the same dehumanization underlying the continued justification of the wanton slaughter & starvation of our people from Palestine to Yemen to Somalia to Afghanistan. It is at its core the same dehumanization that renders Palestinians tragic statistics and their oppressors human beings & loved ones.

None of this disparate, it is all deeply connected.

This speech is humane and brilliant; best, it’s real which is extinct in politics. The world needs more Mamdanis and less Trumps (Putin, Netanyahu, Carney, Starmer, et al).

@ZohranKMamdani:

The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.

@1drcole:

Absolutely—basic humanity demands we reject bigotry and embrace equality for all New Yorkers. No more shadows; time for light. #EndIslamophobia

@TanausuX:

The perfect speech.
We are in a state of mass psychosis.
This can not continue.
We MUST snap out of it.
We MUST wake up.
Mamdani can break the spell.
This is what we need right now.

@LibyaLiberty:

This speech is the defining moment of Zohran Mamdani’s campaign, and a bellwether of the direction democratic voters are moving.

@Truth_onFire:

Mamdani will win for a simple reason.

The alternatives are very weak.

@Fartun333:

London chose Sadiq Khan in 2016 — and they never let him go.
When people see courage and fairness, they stand by it.
Stay strong, Zohran — your time will come too. #StandWithZohran

@DjOmegaMVP:

It’s refreshing to see a politician recognize that human dignity is nonnegotiable.

@Tabishtabi11:

The dream of every Muslim is simple, equality, dignity, and peace. No more silence. No more shadows. It’s time to stand tall and be seen. #EqualityForAll #NewYork

@CostOfLies33:

Zionists lobbies totally undermine US citizens lives. They take away their freedom of expression constitutional right, they pick their politicians through AIPAC, and take billions of US taxpayers money to fund their genocides and apartheid.

It’s time for American people to vote for the politicians who actually work for them, not for a foreign country.

@BhaktBusters:

Wow, what a shocker—some politicians are still stuck in the dark ages, peddling fear instead of facts. Meanwhile, Zohran is out here lighting up the room with truth and courage. Who knew standing up for equality could be so controversial? There is nothing rich old raping racist white men fear more than diversity, equality and inclusion.#NotAllHeroesWearCapes

meme on those opposing DEI that says: "If you oppose "DEI," you should have to use the full phrase instead of the letters. Be brave and say, "I opposed diversity, equity, and inclusion." Bonus points if you admit which part you don't like. Making it an acronym transforms it into a thought-terminating cliche. From now on, be proud of your opinions, but be specific. Let everyone know if it's diversity you don't like, or if it's equity, or if it's being inclusive."

Highest Standard of Living, Channeling Margaret Bourke-White by Steve Brodner, Oct 27, 2025

In 1937 Margaret Bourke-White, intrepid Life photographer, stunned the world with this trenchant photograph of American reality, which has never ceased to be relevant.

I have updated it today. Donald Trump gleefully celebrates “hurting Democrats” by cutting off food aid to the poor, while holding $5 billion in emergency aid to be used in a shutdown. The benefits will run out Nov. 1 and he cannot believe his luck that he and his mob can hurt even more people now . . . many of whom voted for him. The American people are pinning the shutdown on him now. And will this brazen act of cruelty directed at what seem to be his own people. But we know who his own people really are.

Here’s my take. Please find a local food bank and give extra now. They will be overwhelmed very soon.
